Howa 1500 WTF?

The M700 bases will screw to the Howa/Vanguard etal, but don't bet the farm on them working. With the Weavers the old #35 and #36 bases had a disclaimer that shimming may be required. The recomended bases have been changed now, but I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head. Check carefully, because the height misalignment can be around .040".
I bought a Howa 1500 30-06 SPR today and had Scott at ISS set it up. I noticed on my receipt that the scope mount says 1" Med Rem / Howa TAL940700. This leads me to believe that the mount is interchangeable with a 700.
I'm looking forward to getting some rounds through this thing shortly!
Is it worthwhile to choose 2 types of ammunition to use on this gun for me? One for shooting range up to deer and another for bigger game like moose/bear/caribou? Suggestions?

Hey all, I purchased my Howa 1500 in 30-06 30 years ago have shot many deer,crows and rabbits. Many crows out to 200yrds and a 5 point whitetail at 700 yards in the boiler room, best money I have ever spent. Yes there was a bolt re-call and if you strip it down there was a chance that it could be re-assembled incorrectly, but three months in the mail and it was repaired at no charge. Bedded and free-floated it has served me well, I will never sell it. Ive passed it on to my wife and kids cause Daddy needed a new rig....... Remmy700 in 300wby mag and proud to say another tack-driver! I will always have my eye out for another Howa thats for damn sure.

I have the supreme varminter in .223 right now, I havent gotten around to shooting it, but it has a very nice light trigger pull, and its reputation for accuracy is quite well known so im not worried about that. they are very nice rifles though.
