Howa .375 Rugers

I bet a heavy .338 wm would suit you well Whelenlad

250's at the book minimum would be right up your 35 whelen loving alley.

Mate theres an Older Model 70 for not much money which I almost bought, its a 338 win mag with I think a 24 inch tube.. could be a great client gun on the sambar!

Or perhaps the 35 Sambar that was developed Down Under  -

Yeah the 35 Sambar would be pretty cool, I could use powders that are Unlike the WSMs chosen powder to somewhat tame it down a bit, I wouldn't be pushing for speed or big bangs.. I sold a 30 WSM because I was a bit younger and it recoiled well above my comfort level, an my 270 and I were more accurate at the longer distances.
that kind of turned me off the WSM case as the energy level was high both ends.

Don't you already have a .35 Whelen? Although I shouldn't talk, I have a custom stainless .35 Whelen but I've been using my .375 Ruger Alaskan on my last two moose. :)

Yeah mate I do, however the Ruger is around 9lbs Scoped, Ive become quite a Btch with weight since joining the Kimber Ultra light gang, so I am kind of looking for something not too heavy in a handy package that I could take Big Game with, Scrub Bulls, Camel and Buffalo potentially , at some stage an African animal or two but that's down the track.

I thought these Howas would of came in a bit lighter but they say around 7.5 lbs without scope.. I understand a bit of weight certainly helps Recoil and 20 inch may not give it a lump feel.

I don't think the 375 Ruger is for me, downloaded it seems waste of space / cartridge design

cheers

The 375 Ruger / Howa that Son now has is in the region of just over 9 lbs including Leupold mounts and a 1.5 - 6 Swarovski.
You wouldn't want to go much lighter... trust me.
As far as a light Howa is concerned I have an Alpine in 308 and its excellent, very accurate, and weighs 7 lb ready to go.

Yeah Kevan I hear you mate.

I do however have a 308 Barrel for my KM 7-08, I guess a viable option is a plain jane 30-06 , they are advertising a "super custom" howa down here, its got a shorter barrel, some fluting on the tube and I think still in a Hogue.
308 and I think 3006, both with the extended magazine.

cheers

My 308 Alpine came with the option of the magazine package but I prefer the floorplate option as I only carry one or two rounds in the magazine at any given time.
