Howa barrel, cut to fit from a take-off?

Howa 26 mm x 1.5 mm
Wondering if a Savage sml shank or Rem 700 can be re-cut to fit a Howa action
or is there a preferred t/o to use as a replacement for a cartidge change?
Maybe with a How/vage nut setup?

That is pretty close to 1-16. A small Savage is 1-20. A 700 is 1.06-16, so it could be reworked. The barrel face counterbore would have to be removed.

26mm ends up being 1.024", so you would have a nominal 0.0385" of extra on the major diameter. Sounds like a plan!

Some guys aren't going to want to cut metric threads. Some guys can't cut metric threads, because their lathe won't do it.

Is the addition of the barrel nut beneficial or even needed?

If the barrel shank has a shoulder, the nut is unnecessary. No shoulder, then the nut works just fine. Probably less machining to use a nut.

Are any changes needed to the oe action to use a lock nut 'howavage' style if I had the correct barrel

Shouldn't be. The lock nut should pull up hard against the receiver face.
