I am still looking for a rather inexpensive great shooting gun and was curious if anyone has had any experiance (good or bad) with these rifles. I was looking at the M-1500 with the hougue stock for $550.
I guess i would be comparing them to either a savage 12 fv or a remington sps.
It would be in either a 204 or 223.

Good rifle, just make sure you check the serial number online as they had a huge recall due a malfunction in the bolt (the gun fired when the bolt was closed, no trigger pull needed).....this will take your rifle out of action for about 3 months as you must send the bolt to the US for repair.

Nope they wont send you the part to do it yourself........

And if your serial number is one of the ones that is affected by the recall, make sure you get it repaired. WAY TOO dangerous leaving like it is......

Same rifle as the Weatherby Vanguard at less money. Howa is making high quality rifles. If you opt for the .204, look around locally for ammo first.

I have one, actually it is a Mossberg, but the Howa has been sold as Mossberg, Smith and Wesson, and the Weatherby Vangard. I do believe the Vangard has a Weatherby barrel instead of the Howa barrel.

I really like mine, it has been very accurate (when I do my job!). The one thing I don't really like is the stock trigger, there is a bit of creep and it is a bit stiff for my liking. I plan on getting a Timney this spring.

If you check out the following website, you can see if the bolt needs to be fixed. You can even call in and see if the fix has already been done.
