Howa Mini or Ruger Ranch Gen II

I saw a lot Ruger users complaint that their rifle can't extract/cycle cheap Chinese ammo well.
Howa and other Non-US made rifles like CZ work fine with steel case ammo in my experience.

Ah got ya. They were about the same in my experience but that was only one Howa.

Great with Barnaul, mixed with Chinese surplus. The odd case was sticky. Bit more often with Norinco red box non corrosive.

There is aftermarket mini hinged plate bottom metal available. I have a mini 20” barrel in 6 arc that is still in factory form and it shoots great. Super fun to shoot as well.
Ya, It's reputedly very good too.
So much so that it is backordered to the tune of months to years for Canadian consumers.
In a perfect world, I would get the Howa, throw the stock away and bed it into something I like better aesthetically and ergonomically. It doesn't need to be a bench gun, it's for hunting. Maybe a B&C (450$) The Ruger stock also sucks but its well bedded and is super light.
But a 22" pool noodle in my experience, although perfectly accurate, will not tolerate strings of shots so in order to work with it at the range, you need all day. So I would cut that down to 18 or so. (1-150$). I can choose between 16 or 20 in the Ruger.
The bolt knob is also unlikely to be to my liking so I would need to have that threaded. (100-150$) (I have replaced the removeable bolt on my Ruger Ranch Gen 2's easiliy and affordably.
In short, All signs point to the Ruger being an out of the box best fit but that smooth stainless japanese precision action is definitely a Siren song to me.
Dag!!!

I have a Weatherby Vanguard in 223 which is a Howa rifle with the HACT 2 stage trigger. I really don’t have anything negative to say about the rifle at all. I ordered a spring kit out of Australia and it breaks very crisp at 2 lbs. the trigger is why I bought it actually. From what I read the vanguard barrel actually benefits from contacting the stock and does not do as well free floated like an MDT stock. I can get .5” groups at 50 yrds with American eagle ammo but I did not buy the rifle to mod but to enjoy as is and I am not looking back.

that reminds me of another thing.
I am not a huge fan of 2 stage triggers. especially for hunting.
Many are but I am not.
I have grown accustomed to Trigger techs so I wud likely go that way as available with either rifle in future.

Beeron, ran into a buddy at the club who said the same thing about 2 stage triggers he did not like them for hunting. Had him try it out and immediately pulled through both stages and was caught off guard. I then told him to give it a couple more tries and feel the long first stage and then the short pull. After that he was like oh yeah I like that. Personally I started shooting with German airguns with two stage triggers and prefer them over a single. I just like the initial take up. Will have to look into trigger tech some time not real familiar with them
