Howa/Mossberg 1500 trigger

Question for anyone that has had first hand experience with the Howa/Mossberg 1500 trigger system pre-HACT.
Can the HACT system be retrofitted onto the existing 2 stage?
Can, or if, it be done without a gunsmith?

I had the Weatherby version. I believe they were interchangeable, but the best option is swapping to a different trigger. I went rifle basix and it made a massive difference.

I have a Howa HB in 223 and quite like the 2-stage trigger.
