Any word/reviews on them? Local Canadian tire has them on for around $1100 with scope and bipod. I don't recall what type of optic but will check it out today while in town. It looks like a sweet rifle though but I'm wary of "package deals".

Depending on the scope $1100 sounds expensive, Howa makes the Weatherby Vanguard but I think the barrels are different, they are good solid rifles. So I would price check against The Vanguard.

$1100 does sound expensive, my old ranchland compact was under $800 iirc, with scope.
But the scopes with them are cheap cheap cheap. nikko sterrling I think.

Nice rifle though.

I've got a couple Weatherby Vangaurds, same basic rifle. For $1100 though, it would have to be pretty special, like a heavy barrel target or varmint model with a nice stock. My plastic stock 30-06 was regular price $450 and my walnut stock .243 was on sale for $470, both without scope. $550 buys a way nicer scope than you will probably ever find packaged with a rifle.

Yes, we sell them as well both "package deals" and bare rifles.

Some come with Nikko scopes (which are on par with the "stuff" you get on Savage or Rem entry guns that include scopes) BUT some come with Zeiss glass on them.

The 2015 prices have moved up a bit (with the buck) but 1100 still sounds a little high.

And agree, you can put together a better pkg with a Weatherby Vanguard 2 (same action etc) for less money. Plus I like the stocks better on the Weatherby's (have both wood and synthetic) and they (my opinion) look and feel better than the Hogue stocks that you find on just about all of the Howa's.

But if you like the look/feel of the rifle there is certainly nothing wrong with them and I would rate them superior to much of the stuff from US mfg's at the same price point.

Howa makes a good rifle for the money. You would be way farther ahead buying a used scope off the EE. Do your homework and know your prices. I bought 2 Leupolds off here, both were good deals.

What model Zeiss comes with them? The made in China ones?
A Vanguard with a $250 made in USA Redfield sounds like the better combo to me...

Yeah my .223 Vanguard axiom varmint was about 800$ Didnt have quite the HBAR the Howa 1500 you see at CT. The stock is flimsy but even that the gun would shoot sub moa. Fully adjustable trigger, real accurate.

The Howa packages here run about $800 with Night eater scopes (be damned if I can remember the manufacturers name off the top of my head). The rifles are nice enough but not a fan of the optics. That said I've never shot one and I checked out the scope under the stores artificial lights

I have a 1500 lightning in .300winmag and I have had it longer than ANY rifle I've ever owned. I have friends who keep asking to buy it "just cause they love the whole thing, lock, stock and barrel". It came with the Hogue stock and it has knocked down everything it's ever been pointed at. Doubt I'll ever sell it, just cause..................

And thats just the way I feel about my 1500 Stainless carbine in 375 Ruger.
In terms of quality of fit, finish, overall workmanship and most of all function and accuracy it is far and away better than the two Rugers in the same chambering....... no comparison...... and I'm a Ruger fan !!
