I have shot a Howa 1500, basically the same rifle but the super lite has a shorter, thinner barrel and lighter stock…
This was my experience as well. I found the action super rough too. I was really unimpressed. I wanted to check out a couple other howa as they seem to have good reviews.I really wanted it then I got to hold one, the stock feels like it's made outta paper mache. Sample size was 1 but as I pressed my thumb into the stock and heard it cracking, I decided to pass.
Haven't seen one in-stock since, hope that was just a bad example.
I like mine well enough. Unlike my Tikka T3X Superlite in .308, the Howa 1500 Superlite in .308 is in fact actually super light. The Tikka undoubtedly has the better bolt throw/action though, it's not all that close either. Still going to use the Howa for mountain hunting over the Tikka due to the weight difference. Thanks to everyone for the replies. The one I've got my hands on has been worked over by Mitch Kendall. The bolt has been polished and is nice and smooth, the trigger had been lightened to at least 1.75lbs and the rear sling swivel stud has been reinforced.
It's been made into what I was hoping it would be right out of the box by the previous owner.
Looking forward to it warming up and i can get some trigger time with it.
Hey Dorian Gray, Is that Howa the one that Mitch did for himself? Paint on stock removed, a few areas on the stock were "sponged" with paint, and it was glass bedded too? If it is that one, I hope you seen the targets he shot with it. I had considered getting it off him after I saw the targets......
