Wondering what anyone thinks is the better rifle for hunting/ target. I am looking for a calibre that is good for all or most animals from nuisance to deer maybe even larger animals. I also want it to be lite. I am liking the sako 85 finnlight, but the howa seems to have excellent reviews, along with the tikas. Any feedback would be great.

Both Sako and Tikka almost the same, just cost about half of Sako.
Can't speak of the Howa, but the above 2 are well known to be very accurate out of the box and well made

I've shot lots of Tikka's and a couple of Sako's. Super accurate rifles. I shot both rifles in 300 WSM and the recoil was not too bad.The Tikka was a synthetic stock/blue barrel and the Sako was a wood stock/stainless.
Like emidyl was saying the Tikka is half the price of the Sako.
I've never shot a Howa but I've never heard a bad thing about them either.

My money would go to the Tikka and spend the money you save on an upper end scope to top it off.
Just my 2 cents.....

The Tikka Lite was definitely the lighter of the 2 rifles. Comfortable to carry as well.
Another suggestion.
My buddy bought a new Browning X Bolt in 300 WSM. I was surprised at how light it was with a wood stock on it. Nice trigger, accurate and recoil was not too bad either. Price on it would be around $1000 area ?
If you want an all round calibre I would go with a .270 Winchester. It will take down anything in this country.
Big or small.

The Tikka is available in the T3 Lite, which is quite handy to carry, but you pay in felt recoil with any chambering above 30-06. The price is quite attractive.
The Howas are excellent rifles, and are likely to shoot well. The bargain of the three, IMHO.
They would not be quite as light as the Tikka mentioned, but still very tolerable.
The Sako is light, accurate and expensive, compared to the other two.
It would be best to get one of each type in your hand before you decide.

Weatherby vangaurd rifles are made by howa. Mine is the weatherby axiom in .308 same as the howa 1500. It is accurate as others have sub moa groups with them, me close but not there yet. Only drawback it has a floor plate and only holds 4 rnds, next rifle i buy has to have a magazine. I really like mine, other then no magazine. I don't own the tikka or sako.

Thank you all for the replies. I still don't know what I want to get. If I would get off the light rifle gig then I would go with the weatherby or howa. I didn't know that with a light rifle there recoil would be more, but it makes sense. my dad has 2tikas so I don't think it makes sense for me to get a tika at this time. Anyone know were a howa dealer is? Is .308 a good all around cartridge?

Finnlight if you can afford it. T3 Lite is nice as well. I've handled the Finnlight and shot a few T3's, great rifles.

I'd get a Savage

Finnlight is nicest of the lot IMO, but you did mention target shooting and my finnlight gets quite warm after a 5 round group. Depending on calibre it can be quite snappy for recoil due to the light weight( mine is 300wsm so probably worse than most ). I have never owned a Howa but would certainly like to as I've heard nothing negative about them.

I have two Sakos and one Tikka t3 lite. The Tikks is chambered in 204 great to carry when walking out to call coyotes. The Sako rifle have wood stocks and are a lot heavier but much prettier. Havent played with a Howa but have shot a Vangard made by Howa. Nothing wrong with those. Lots of good stuff to choose from with any of those three, good luck.

Why not, what don't you like about them?
A Tikka in a 308 would likely be the most accurate gun you'll ever own.
What $$ you save over a Sako will mount a really nice high quality scope:)

I own both a FinnLite and a couple of T3's, no difference in performance, but of course the Sako screams quality over the T3. Smooth operation, great out of the box accuracy, and tolerable recoil in magnum calibers (7mm RM Sako, and .300 WM, .22-250 T3's)

Never was interested in a Howa/Weatherby so I can't comment first hand.

A Sako m85 SS or Finnlight first choice or my preference is a Sako m75 (I prefer the stock-I have several m75 rifles). Next would be a Sako A7 or Tikka T3. I have a couple T3's in the LS model....LOVE THEM!! Great shooters. I am not fond of the T3 Lite synthetic stocks-thats why I waited the extra year for the T3 in the laminate.

Caliber choice for me would be a 270WSM for what you listed, maybe a 243, 25-06 or 7mm-08. 260 REM is another caliber.
