Hey!
My name is Derek and I'm glad to have found this site. The wife and I would like to get into pistol target shooting. She finds it helps train her to be less shaky(she has MS). I grew up around firearms and enjoy any kind of shooting. We are currently trying to decide on a .22 pistol to start with and build from there. Looking forward to getting to know all of you here on the forums!

Welcome aboard, Derek!! :D
For autos, you can't go wrong with either a Ruger or Browning.
Single action revolver, Ruger Single Six Convertible gets the nod.
Double action would be a S & W 617... I like the 10 shot version myself. ;)
Good luck and welcome to the obsession!

Hello and welcome to you both. My two cents worth about a gun for you both is to find something that fits your hand well. That may mean two guns. Having something you can hold well is critical. I don't do target work, but I do collect autoloaders. Of the guns I have, only two (neither are .22s) really fit my small hand. I shoot better with them than I do with the others. It's worth handling a bunch before you buy, if you can, and definitely worth looking for.
