How's the accuracy of your Ruger Hawkeye

I'm looking at buying a Ruger 77 Hawkeye. I've had a few Ruger rifles. They have all been good shooters but the newest one was an mid-90s model so it doesn't really relate to current production.

What kind of accuracy do you get from your personal Ruger Hawkeye rifles or those of friends whose rifle you have shot?

I own a few Mk II Rugers and I believe the only difference between these discontinued models and the Hawkeyes was the trigger and the new red butt pad. The Hawkeye will have the LC6 and is adjustable, but the Mk II triggers in my guns are pretty darned nice (and easily tweaked if the need be). Mine are very accurate with easy 2-3" groups off hand at 100 yards scoped. I did own a Hawkeye in .243 recently and found no difference in the feel, function, or accuracy from the Mk II. There are some nice Hogue overmould stocks out there too I believe.

I bought a Hawkeye in 204 ruger last year. It shoots tight groups and the trigger is crisp. I just don't like how close the bolt gets to my scope when chambering a round and it's not as smooth as I'm use to. Gonna be a good truck gun.

I have a Hawkeye in .257 Roberts I bought about 3 years ago. Nice trigger, LOVE the stock improvements, especially the wraparound checkering.
Accuracy so far is about 1.25 MOA with 100-grain bullets and MOA or a bit better with Speer 120-grain Hot-Cors and H-4831. My best group to date was 4 shots into 1.5 inches at 200 yards. The fifth shot was a called flyer.
The rifle has been free-floated but not bedded.

Hi Chuck - what chambering are you considering now?

All below out of Ruger 77 factory barrels made after 2002. All from a rest but no fancy bunny ear bags or lead sleds etc. Sorry all I got in 77s are 35s.

With my 358 Hawkeye Stainless my notes say 1 1/4" 3 shot group done twice with 48.5/IMR 4895 and 225 partitions and 1 1/2" 3 shot group with 46 IMR 3031
and 200gr BarnesTSX - but no pics.

My 358 Frontier so far groups are more like 2 1/2" to 3". Not sure why but haven't really given it a fair try yet. Another load hopefully will better that. I dropped it into a canoe paddle but didn't bed it. That may(?) be a factor.

There is a 300 WM that puts 2 shots almost touching at 672 yards on a windless day. It wears a Bushnel elite 4200 with tactical knobs. There was substantial load developement done with it. I do have pics somewhere I see if I can find them.
Its a Hawkeye with the Stainless barrel.

I have one in a 9.3x62 and it is exceptional considering how much time i played with the loads (zero!) First 8 shots out of her....

The one Hawkeye I'm familiar with is a blued steel in a synthetic stock chambered in .270. Couldn't get it to shoot any better than 1.75" at 100 yards. Hunting acceptable accuracy, but not good enough to keep in the stable.

It had only a 20" bbl. to, which is too short for a 270 in my opinion.
