How's the grouse hunting in Manitoba this year?

I haven't hunted grouse for a while and a new friend wants to give it a try this weekend. Its his first time hunting grouse so I'd like him to have a good hunt. I'm planning to go to Sandilands as that's where I have hunted in the past.

How's the grouse hunting in Manitoba been so far? What part of the cycle are the they in? Anyone willing to suggest some spots in Sandilands?

Unlike the deer populations in the areas of Manitoba that I've been in the grouse populations have been hit hard in the last couple of years. I have also seen a record number of foxes. Alive and dead. Hopefully they will be back on the upward climb after this year. I, personally, won't hunt them until I see them back in abundance but that is just my areas that I hunt. I have heard that some North and North Eastern areas have a ton.
 
I've been out with my pointer 40 hours...Balmoral forest...Stead Forest and Manigotagan to Bissett..............NFG!

Seen 2 birds and one road kill.

My son was up in the Pas today and got 3 and saw many.
 
I am going to head to Spruce Woods this weekend to scout deer and hunt grouse...last year we had some good days there for grouse...
