How's this for a real "peep" sight?

Bored and frustrated one day with a broken sight blade on my esteemed model 39 cooey I came up with this example of North Island hillbilly artistry. ... a soldered on 3/8 inch nut for a peep sight. As you see I showed some pride and closely matched the original finish with a sharpie

I like it, and very good chance that was Aagard's. I unfortunately can't get used to a peep on an express / quick sighting rifle, despite all the theory being right; longer sight radius, wider field of view, and quicker acquisition. Theoretically on the last point, but the military believes it and they have better science than I.

Here's my .450 Rigby with a peep, my only big gun I've struggled to shoot well, just can't get used to the peep.

Tap the hole and you can screw in different size apertures. large hole for fast target acquisition shooting and a smaller diameter for target.
Needs to darken it down to reduce glare, nothing a match or lighter couldn't fix. KISS

Sounds good... but what would you use for the apertures? And where would you get them?

I would find out what thread Lyman uses for their peeps, and just go with that. There would literally an unlimited selection of inserts then.

I like this. It is simple, most any-one can build one, and it looks calibrated for 9.3x62!!

I think it's a .375; almost sure it is in fact.

Finn Aagard wrote about having his first .375 set up like that. Just a piece of angle iron fixed to the receiver. He sold it after cutting the barrel to 22", and finding he didn't like it after having it shortened. Makes one wonder if this is not his old rifle.
