I hope it cools down soon. Our moose trip for the first week of October is coming up quick.
No problem with heat during our elk hunt. We got two on the morning of Sept 20th, one that evening and one monday morning. Elk were moving, feeding and calling like normal, and the only downside was the mosquitoes. Daytime temperatures were 25-28C so it was good that we had our walk-in cooler in camp!
You go hunting with a reefer truck?
Please explain...?
My wife thinks I go over-board when it comes to hunting???![]()
No reefer truck, but a permanent cooler that's kinda similar to a reefer. To explain the set-up, my family and a friend invested in hunting land years ago when it was relatively cheap. We have a permanent camp on the border of the provincial forest. We just walk from the cabin for our elk hunt, and bring them in with a little tractor and front end loader. It's "gentleman's" elk hunting, or "spoiled rotten" elk hunting, take your pick ;-)
My Dad was a butcher and he built the cooler from scratch with plywood, styrofoam insulation, home made overhead rails & roller hooks and a small commercial electric blower and compressor unit on 115V. No worries about meat in hot weather, and it keeps the after hunt beer cool too!
Managed to miss a very nice buck at 35 yards. I may tell the story when I am not quite so upset with myself. I have to go cry now.
This oughta be a good one![]()
I heard the weather is supposed to turn this weekend!
