HP9 fore end swap question.

I just got my HP9 and the foreend is the type that blocks off the feed tube when the chamber is open. Why does it do this. From a daily use standpoint, what benefits would a LE (870P) foreend swap give me. What practical purpose does being able to feed an open chamber shotgun serve? I'm thinking there is a tactical purpose, maybe easily dropping one in the chamber while loading the tube, and not having the chamber a round to start feeding the tube (sort of a safety benefit).

If the chamber is open and the gun is empty you drop a round in the ejection port and then close it and it is loaded. You then put rounds in the tube so I don't understand the need to get at the feed tube with an open bolt, in the ejection port is way faster. The 870P forends I've seen, other than the old round style, all look like they cover the feed port when in the bolt open too but I am not positive.

I've seen a couple and it doesn't seem to me like the foreend reaches back that far to cover the feed port.

I see what yer sayin about the feed process. My 887 covers the feed port when chamber is open too. But some guns don't do it. Some leave the feed port accessible with chamber open. Just wondering if there is a difference, or a reason that people would WANT the difference. (I'm a nub)

I just looked at the aftermarket railed forend on my HP-9 and it has a cutout for the feed port but I really don't see why. If the gun is empty and open you use the ejection port to load a shell to get it back up and running the fastest. I can not see any place where you would want or need to feed the magazine with the action open. If someone can I would love to hear it. I haven't seen the magpul shotgun series, maybe there is something on them about it.

on an 870 there is no point is trying to load the mag tube while the forend is back, itshard to do and poitless.
The idea of the short forend is to allow the use for a side mounting shell holder like Tacstar or mesa tactical
The railed forend of course are for lights , grips ect.
The rubber forend are just great for cold and wet weather.

bbb,
I agree with you fully but I have to wonder why they felt the need to mold my forend with the relief cutout for the mag tube.
