Hey guys, I'm trying to decide which one of these to get. And there's no one around here that sells the grizzly's so I can't get a feel for it. An yes I know they're 870 clones but I'm more wondering about the cycling etc on the two. Are they pretty much apples to apples? I've got plenty of rifles but this with be the first 12 guage I'll have owned and I'm looking for a nice compact camp/hiking gun and something I can tote around on my back while bow hunting in case I get surrounded by bears (it's happened lol). I have no interest in hunting with it so I'm not really interested in a full size barrel.

Are there any issues associated with either of these guys that I should be weary of? Does one "out perform" the other?

Sorry if this topic has been done to death, I'm just trying to cover my bases. Thanks in advance.

Also another quick q. On the Canadian ammo sight, the grizzly that comes with the ghost ring sights looks different in color than the one without. Is it a different finish or just the camera flash? Anyone know for sure?

They are pretty much the same guns but the HP9's have 14" barrels and have norinco made in china stamped on the gun where as the Grizzly's are 12.5 and are only stamped dominon arms Grizzly or something along that line. No made in China stamped on there even though they are....

So you need to decide on the barrel length you want first.... and I guess if you want sights other then a bead then Can ammo's guns have some other options from the factory.

If you watch the EE you can get a 14" HP9 for around $200 used and maybe a bit more for the grizzly's.

thanks man, appreciate the input.

Does the 1.5 inch extra barrel on the norinco actually make any noticable difference in performance?

Its the same gun made is the same place
I would do with the 14 inch as you can put a +1 mag tube on it. Lots of firepower in a small package
Bbb

I can vouch for the HP9. In the last 8 years since I bought my HP9 -14", I haven't had a single problem. Shoots fine and accepts almost all Remington parts. With all the money I saved, I was able to get a decent tactical setup for less then the price of buying a remy 870.

No but like badboy suggested you could add an extension if you want to put an extra 2 3/4" shell in the tube.

I kind of prefer the look of the 14" barrel sticking out a bit past the end of the mag tube and I'm ok with 4 in the tube so I'd probably get a grizzly and then either trade the 12.5 for a 14" barrel which probably wouldn't be hard or just keep the 12.5 on there.

I like the Grizzly name on the side more then the Norinco for some reason even though they are the same gun in the end..... given the choice for the same price I'd take the grizzly for sure and I might even pay a little more for it......:slap:

They are both great handy guns and if you are tight for money you should consider which ever one pops up on the E.E. first. ( for a good price)

I just got an HP 9, and I'm still amazed by how short and light it is. In fact, I honestly can't even imagine how insanely short the 12.5 barrel must feel in hand.
I'll definitely add a +1 mag extension, (And a whole lot more tacticool junk) to mine down the line. :D

I need to watch more then :) I'd snap it up at that price...

While we're on the subject how's the wood on the Grizzlies?
