Hi Folks !
Just got this one back from Casey at TACORD,
It's a Norinco HP9 with the full treatment !
To say I am impressed is an understatement, Everything from start to finish was excellent, communications were great, the estimate was bang-on and the quality of the work is...exceptional !!
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Casey and Tacord if you need work done, very professional.

Work done was:

Vang Comp System with Ports

Vang Comp Front Sight with Tritium Insert

Vang Comp Rear Sight

Vang Comp Stainless Steel Follower

Vang Comp Oversized Safety

Remington Forged Extractor

MagPul SGA Stock Set

Machined and Fluted Breach Bolt with Titanium Nitride Coating

Polished Fore-End Tube Assembly with Titanium Nitride Coating

Tactical Ordnance +1 Magazine Extension

Enlarged Feed Port, Machined and Polished

Trigger Plate Assembly Scallop Cut

Cerakote Refinish – Black

Taken from TACORD's website:

" The Tactical Ordnance Remington 870 ( Norinco HP9) is the most reliable and dependable on the market. Our receivers are hand-honed and the action bars are deburred, polished and coated with Titanium Nitride for a hard, durable protective finish that greatly reduces friction. In addition, the breach bolt is fluted, polished and TiN coated to reduce overall mass and friction during cycling.

Easy loading is an essential part on all Tactical Ordnance 870’s. The feed port of the receiver is machined, beveled and polished to create a natural funnel that greatly improves loading efficiency. A Vang Comp stainless steel magazine follower compliments the magazine tube by reducing spring binding, allowing the shooter to easily verify if the magazine tube is empty. Magazine capacity is increased by 2 shells with the Tactical Ordnance magazine extension that features a 3-way sling plate.

Accuracy is greatly improved from the Vang Comp System. Vang Comp sights allow for quick target acquisition and the integral picatinny rail gives you the versatility to add an optic. A Vang Comp oversized safety with its pronounced dome shape improves shooter control by allowing the release of the safety and acquiring the trigger at the same time."

The Vang-Comp System:

In SHORT:

Higher Rate of Accuracy- 12-inch shot patterns @ 25 yds. with standard 00 Buck, 2-times tighter than a cylinder bore barrel.
Less Felt Recoil- Faster follow-up shots, easier training, makes 12ga accessible to all shooters.
Maximize performance- No need for choke tubes and their maintenance/ limitations.
AND NOW THE REST OF THE STORY…

Vang Comp Systems was founded in 1990 by Gunsmith and Inventor Hans J. Vang with the mission of bringing innovative, high-quality parts and services to everyone who owns and uses a shotgun. Mr. Vang developed the Vang Comp System at the behest of a government agency which was searching for a way to make their duty shotguns safer to down-range bystanders, i.e. make their scatterguns shoot tighter shot patterns without the use of choke tubes. This government agency also complained about the recoil and night-time muzzle flash of the 12ga shotguns and requested a mitigation of these factors as well….

ENTER THE VANG COMP BARREL MODIFICATION SYSTEM.

Mr. Vang devised a system of lengthening the forcing cone of the shotgun barrel to allow a smoother transition of the shot column from chamber to bore, thus decreasing recoil and shot deformation. He would then further back-bore the barrel so that the shot column gradually tapered and squeezed together as it traveled down the bore towards the muzzle. Before they get to the muzzle, the hot expanding gasses which account for the muzzle flash are jettisoned through a precisely-calculated and rigorously-tested array of compensation ports. This hot gas is discarded through 62 holes, 31 on either side of the front sight which contributes to the flat shooting, reduced felt recoil, eliminated muzzle flip and diminished muzzle flash characteristics of the Vang Comp System.

AND HOW ABOUT THAT SHOT PATTERN?

With less deformation and a less turbulent flow, the pellets achieve a higher rate of accuracy. Back-boring the barrel from the chamber towards the muzzle creates a choke where there was none. The rule of thumb allows that a standard cylinder bore barrel will shoot about 1-inch of spread per yard from the target (5 yards from target= 5-inch shot spread).

The Vang Comp barrel modification produces shot patterns that are 2-times tighter.

What do the Vang comp ports do for muzzle velocity? The quote mentions 62 holes, yours looks like closer to 32.

Very nice. How does it shoot?

Does it have a flex tab on the elevator?

Does the mag extension have detentes so it stays screwed on?

Is it lighter or heavier now after the upgrades?

I'm not sure on the velocity, Haven't shot it yet ( this weekend, I'll see if I can borrow a chrony, I still have a stock HP9 for comparison) and I think the 62 holes is maybe a misprint because the pic's I saw before on their site looked like mine

I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, I will this weekend.
The mag extension does have detents,
I'll weigh it tonight after work, I still have a stock HP9 for comparison, but if I had to guess, it feels lighter, and I think that's due to the Magpul stock ( the Norinco stocks weigh a ton!)

I finally got a chance to shoot it, haven't chrono'd it yet.
It shoots great ! very smooth, a very noticeable improvement over stock ( which wasn't bad to begin with) The action is very slick and effortless to pump, I'm very happy !
I still have to weigh it, ( my scale packed it in), but it doesn't feel noticeably lighter
I'll try to weigh and chrono it this weekend

I don’t believe they put in as many holes on the shorter (12-14”) barrels. 18” should have 62 I believe.
