Hi guys,

I was in WS in Lethbridge yesterday (a four-hour round-trip) and the store had a very limited selection of Harris Bi-Pods. Like, as in no swivel mounts ...

Two quick questions ...

- What would you suggest (from the Harris selection) for my first bipod-equipped firearm? It's a .223 Remington SPS Varmint, and I live in a place where ... well ... I can shoot from my front (and back) deck. I also walk a lot, and would like to have a bipod that I can use from a sitting position.

- Where can I find one one nearby and online, for a good price? I know that they're probably available at retail sources in Calgary, but I feel like an ageing Michael Schumacher whenever I roll into the city's "trails" ...

Best regards,

Ron

You can also order them from Cabelas. I was lookin at them there other day as well. If you dont need one with a swivel, there was one earlier this week (the longer leg ones) in Parts and Bits forsale.

Ron - 2 hours from lethbridge? West or east?

Anyway, I've gone through the same dilemma as you a couple of years ago. Here's my advice.

For seated shots, the only REAL option is the S25 or the H. It depends how big you are. I've owned both, and find the H to be good for seated shots - it goes to 23", where the S25 goes to 27". In deep snow however, I found the S25 to be better.

That being said, the longer the bipod, the heavier the weight, which makes for CRAPPY walking. Also, if you can get away with NO sitting shots, then go for the L series.

Whatever you do - you MUST (in my opinion) spring the extra dough for the swivel. It's MANDITORY if your shooting any where other than a bench at a range. Trust me on this one - the first time you lean over the hood of the truck to nail a sprinting coyote, you'll realize the benefits. :)

As for a source - as always, the equipment exchange here is your best bet.

Oh - one more thing.

If you're not a big guy, you may find it difficult to shoot prone from the H or 25 series. I'm 6'5", and have no issue, but smaller friends have found it tough.

Just food for thought!

my advice would be to not skimp on the Harris. buy the long leg model with a swivel. its worth the $100 or so.

Merci

Hey guys,

Thanks very much for the info and the extra advice.

Canucklehead, I'm six-foot-one ... d'you think the S25 and H will likely be OK for prone shooting?
