How do you like them? Ive been wanting to try a new rifle for a few years and am interested in the HS stuff but I haven't seen many reviews.

So if you have one, how do you like it? Any complaints? Any suggestions?

This is aimed at the guys with sporter/lighter weight rifles - not the target/varmint models.

Had a SPL didn't care for it.
Didn't care for the stiff bolt the finish or the sharp edges.
The rest of it was pretty good ,but not better than buying 3 Tikkas and keeping the best shooter.

played with 2........heavy and rough come to mind....cheaper to buy a better action and build from the ground up, that's all their doing but then charging a premium for it....

Buy a tikka and throw out the barrel and the stock, get a HS stock and a match stainless barrel fitted.......at what...like half the price??

I can't speak for the new ones but the one I have is based on the 700 action and still shoots well after several rebarrels. The stock broke after 20+years and a phone call then an emailed picture and a new stock was on the way.

I have a pro-guide lite. Other than not really being super light I have been very happy with it. The fit and finish was wayy ahead of my fierce. Consistently accurate, smooth cylcing. Only thing I didnt like was the hard recoil pad they all come with.

Hey DG,

I have had a few. SPL 7Rem Mag, PHL7-08, HTR 308. Although I parted with them, I have only good things to say about them. All were accurate. All I ever used was shelf loads and anything I put down the barrel grouped under an inch. I only found one shelf load, the Rem Sciroccos, were wild in the SPL.

Fit and finish was nice. Never encountered the roughness mentioned by others. Bolts were smooth, functioning was flawless. I really liked the feel of the SPL off a bipod hunting southern prairies and foothills. Liked the feel of the PHL, not really a lightweight, but compact.

Kind of wishing I had kept the SPL and PHL. Still have the HTR. Thought I might get back into long range but no time. Had her listed on the EE but most guys want it for free.

Drop me a note if you are planning to be in Edmonton and you can drop by to get hands on the HTR if you are interested in seeing the fit and finish.

I'm not sure of Canadian dealers anymore. I know wss cleared them out a few years back - probably should have bought one then. I remember the less popular cartridges (325wsm) we're going for $1700 new.
