I am going 'yote hunting this weekend. Area is thick bush where we hope to call them in. I currently do not have a traditional "varmit gun". I am thinking of using my 12ga turkey gun with it HS Strut Undertaker choke. Here is my question. Is it safe to use #2 shot or #4 buck though this choke?

Anyone do this?

I figure the #4 buck group should be tight to ensure good kill to 40-50 yards or so.

My other option is to take my single shot 30-30 with peep sights which would extent my range out to 100 yards or so if conditions allow.

Thoughts?

The last 'yote I nailed was out west with a 220 swift using 50 grain v-max bullet going about 4100 fps. It worked very well ;-)

I've used my Undertaker with #4 buck,as well as 00 buck. Never patterned it, but have killed coyte's with it a around 35 yards. I'll have to try patterning it with some other chokes and see how it compares.

If you have time to pattern the shotgun, see what your gun/choke/shot combo is capable of. You may be suprised. If you can't pattern the gun, I'd use the .30-30 or keep the shots within 35 yards or so.
