Has anyone used this ammunition?
Up until a day ago I never even knew it existed but a friend picked up a box of 270 Winchester for me.
Trophy Gold loaded with Berger VLD 150 grain HPBT hunting bullets.
Cases are Winchester.
It looks like very quality stuff although pricey as all get out.

When I first bought my .454 I wasn't set up to handload and couldn't find much ammo so I picked up a couple boxes of HSM "bear load" .45 colt. It was quite potent and shot very accurately.

A few years ago I drove a 400 km round trip from southern Alberta to Calgary to buy a box of the HSM .44 Magnum from a sweetie named Kate at AmmoSupply.com.

Wicked expensive, but I worked mostly alone on a wilderness ranch on the eastern slope and wanted The Best Available for my tuned-up Ranch Hand. I wish I'd bought two boxes, because they quickly sold-out and Ammo Supply never had it again. And then they went broke ... :(

By my calculations, the 305 g swaged bullet ... travelling at the quoted (higher than normal) velocity ... generated about 44% more energy than the standard 44 Magnum ... which the Rossi could easily handle. A handy legal little bundle a fahrpower ... I refer to that ammunition as "them boo-teek cartridges from Montana" ...

But, sadly finite I think ... like Elaine's sponges ...

It was great stuff, well made and consistent. All of the Starline brass I reload came from HSM factory ammo. The reason that Ammo Supply sold out the .44 mag version is because I bought all of it. Every last box...

edit - to clarify it was the 240 grain version I bought them out of. I tried a box of the 305 gr for laughs and honestly it was underwhelming. Also Ammo Supply didn't go broke, it got wound down and sold.

SCROLL DOWN TO .44 MAGNUM

Wolverine Supplies is now carrying HSM ammo. We have a broad selection in but not everything. We were very impressed by the quality and accuracy. If there's something you're looking for we don't have just contact us via phone or email

A couple of years back I notified a friend of some HSM that I saw pop up on the shelf at a local Canadian Tire. As I knew he had a rifle chambered in one of the Weatherby cartridges I figured it would be of interest to him (.257 Weatherby IIRC). I checked out the brass for its headstamp and found it to be OEM. What was nice about it was the box of loaded ammo was less expensive than the same quantity of Weatherby component brass!

I have these for my 1886 .45-70 and it’s the only ammo I take with me when I’m guiding bear hunters. Haven’t had to use any on wounded bears yet but when I do it’s gonna knock the crap outta him lol.

Too hot for me to fire out of my S&W Mod 69.. Had to sell the last of the box I had. They are readily available at Cabelas for around $84/bx of 50..

All good info and thank you.
Did some Google-Foo after getting this box and yes indeed it appears to be some very high quality hand crafted "semi factory" loads.
My friend paid close to 80.00 for twenty rounds of .270 and I honestly would have stopped him had I known the price.
I can build these same rounds for less than 20.00 per box using the same components.
Mindful that I have hundreds of WW 270 brass and lots of 270 Sierras going back a lot of years.
That being said, I sure have no issues with any ammo supplier coming on the scene if they supply a high end product like this.
