hulls for shot reloading??

Most hulls can be reloaded, but some last longer than others. Most guys will usually work on the most popular brands for ease of availability. You want to keep everything the same so you don't have to adjust your dies every time. I don't load 12G because you don't save much, even though you may be able to make a better load. For 20G and .410 there are significant savings.

Shotshell recipes are very sensitive, changing one component even a primer can significantly increase pressure, I would not use a hull unless there is a specific load for it, I like using AA hulls as they seem to last and load well on my machine. I rarely load shotshells anymore as there is little cost savings but for special situations I load a few.

+1 What Ben amd Hunter said...

I use Win AAs low brass target hulls and have also used the bulkpack Win Universal hulls for slugs and buckshot following the data that Lee gives with the loadall and the slug mold. They cyce and fire fine in my pump guns.

IMO the most important thing is to take the time and inspect your fired hulls before loading again. The AAs are really strong and stand up well but the Universals don't.

My rule of thumb with the Universals is to toss them after the second reload, some hulls may not make it to a second reload so the inspection becomes more important.

New to shotshell reloading? Focus on the Remington Unibody (one-piece) hulls, either black or green in color, whether 6 or 8 point crimps. These include Gun Club, STS, and Game Load hulls. They all use the same reloading data and IMHO are the best out there.

Mooseman,

I got into reloading recently and everyone I've spoken to (in person or online) echoes the same good advice as Shootshellz.

I've only got about 100 Remington hulls at the moment, but in the mean time I've got lots of Federal target (promo) hulls which I toss after one reload.
