I just picked this rifle up from a fellow CGNer and was hoping that someone wiser than myself could shed some light on it's history.

It's a Hungarian M52 manufactured in 1952. The bolt is mismatched (but is still Hungarian), but everything else appears to be original.

Does anyone know the history of these rifles? Any idea what the significance of the 202 on the stock is (rack number?)? Value of the rifle?

Thanks for all your insight.

The scope is a Soviet wartime model which is fairly common from what I've read. Seems like a good number used Soviet scopes, but the information on these rifles is limited.

The base is an unmarked period correct piece.

Most of the 02 Hungarian MN snipers were given/sold to the NVA and the usual war trophies brought back by the American GI's whenever they could capture one.Harold

I've got two of the M48 version ( non-sniper). Mine both have Arab markings on the butt stock and my research shows these came from Egypt. Build quality on these Hungarian mosins is way better than any Russian built mosin I've seen ; pre-war , wartime or post war. Fit and finish on the stocks and bluing are both excellent. Tough to put a price on them as they rarely come up for sale.
Would be interesting to know how many are in Canada. Maybe this thread could be the start of an inventory ?

Email sent. :)

A fair number of them appear to have challenged bores...show signs of corrosive ammo.

The one I had had that issue sadly and I've heard of others. Other than that, it was an awesome, quality rifle.

So if you have one with a nice, non corroded bore, you've got something.

I have seen pics of original ones with an 02 marked Hungarian scope.

Nice rifle sir,..mine has an excellent bore and Hungarian PU attached,...I have seen a few of these, and this one for some reason has a dark stain like finish applied...

Mosin people tend to not be big $ people. Whether that be good or bad.

You might think, oh, this is worth $2000 or $5000 because it's rare. [/rubs hands together like rusty rasp files while chuckling evilly]

I've never had any luck getting much for any Mosin/SVT/SKS.

People like them because they're cheap!

I don't think anyone can tell you what it will sell for.

Actually, as I recall one of these just sold, a gent out of PET sold his because a baby was on the way. Like a month ago.

I think it had a Russian scope.

All matching Hungarian with 02 scope, 02 mount, all matching, with a decent bore? Hmmmm....

Worth a few $ but is there a buyer?
