Decided to try some of the Hungarian stuff for a change (the price was right), has anyone chronied this stuff in comparison to the Czech milsurp so see which was hotter ? I've heard they were about the same in dirtyness ...

IMHO the Czech milsurp stuff I tried recently had noticeably more "Kick" then the Hungarian, or Norinco Silver box stuff.

Recoil signature will likely be a function of powder burn rate more that bullet velocity. Most x39 cartridges run about 2400fps with the 123gr bullet.

I have heard that czech is 'hot,' but the chrony doesn't lie. Every one I've tested has been right around the 2400 mark.

My friend has a bit of Hungarian stuff, and when he is done shooting a couple of hundred rounds, his bolt seems grayish. Is it normal for the bolt to get so much crap on it? I am assuming this is some sort of gas blowback?

Do you have wash out the bolt guide with water/windex/whatever too?

i chrony'ed some czech "bxn 85" and got a 10 shot average of 2510 fps out of a yugo M59. this was not on a hot day either.

next time i am out shooting i will run some hungarian over it.

My Yugo M59 (not 66) was 20.5"

Not sure how long the other ones are.

But my M59 chrono'd right around 2400 with bxn69 and bxn73

i also have some bxn 78 that i will have to check now. it was out of a regular M59 (not the 66 version) that i used as well.

here are my results.

czech "bxn 85" ten shot average 2518 fps.

hungarian "21 79" five shot average 2518 fps.

both shot out of a standard Yugo M59. i find it interesting that the average works out to be exactly the same for ammo made 6 years apart in 2 different countries.

Funny that they're both 100fps faster than the fastest published loads I can find anywhere. And faster than either czech surplus (bxn69 and 73) and commercial Federal are in my rifle. Looks like you have a fast one - or are at a much higher altitude?

Anyway, I always find it interesting seeing how actual chrono results come out compared to the specs

here is more, out of the same Yugo M59 (20.5" barrel i think or whatever the standard barrel lenght is). i am at 3000' elevation, temperature today is 24C, yesterday 22C.

czech "bxn 73" 2425 fps (5 shot average)
hungarian "21 78" 2436 fps (5 shot average)
chinese "351 94" 2398 fps (5 shot average)
russian "711 94" 2451 fps (3 shot average)
UMC "R-P" 2376 fps (3 shot average) i see on their website that this is rated at 2365 fps.

and previous results already reported:

czech "bxn 85" 2518 fps (10 shot average) taken last year. highest velocity in string was 2590! but i have discarded the raw data, IIRC, most were right around 2500-2510.
hungarian "21 79" 2518 fps (5 shot average) taken yesterday. raw data: 2548, 2474, 2538, 2507, 2523.

further, i have retested today:

czech "bxn 85" 2435 fps (5 shot average)
hungarian "21 79" 2440 fps (5 shot average)

the difference between the old (last year and yesterday) tests and todays test of the "bxn 85" and the "21 79" amounts to 3-4%. i am not sure what the accuracy rating of the "shooting chrony F-1" is. or if it is "operator error" or if the ammo can vary box to box from the same case by that much.
