Hungry here or Tacticalteacher (depends on my alter ego that day) with a review of a positional rifle sling by SAP (Short Action Precision) and their fabulous 2 Round Holder. I have been meaning to get this review done a couple of months ago but my life has taken an interesting turn over the past couple of months and I'm finally processing the end of a 30 year run in my high school teaching career.
Now my background comes from several years of shooting NRA High Power (read: M14/M1A/M1 Garand rifles) with a rigid shooting jacket. I'm a lover of getting sling'ed up while wearing my shooting jacket and then lining up my iron sights at large black circles that stay there for a while (read: more than 60 seconds).
My favorite 'go-to' sling was the M1907 sling in leather, and 1 1/4" wide. Lately I'm fond of the Biothane versions instead of leather and these are made by Turner Saddlery down in Southern USA. Google them and they do ship to Canada.
Lately I've been shooting with the SAP Rifle sling and I found their innovation quite interesting... Have a look at their products as I received them:

You will see the sling and the attachments, yes, flush cup sling swivels AND QD swivels by Talon, very bombproof choices for the zombie invasion. Over on the left however is my favorite product of theirs and that's the SAP 2 Round Holder. I'm keeping this one for myself, ha ha ha ha

The base velcro is backed by an adhesive to stick on to your rifle stock. This black color happens to match nicely with my GAP Camo McMillan HTG stock. It's perfect for my ORA Precision Rifle matches because you are allowed TWO sighters in some of the matches and this holder sure is handy to keep track of your 2 sighters.
Here I go... peeling the back of the adhesive on the velcro patch...

In the next picture, I've installed the velcro base patch on the strong side of my stock (Strong, master hand, dominant hand) so I can grab the sighter rounds while in the prone position. Dry run this before you stick it on, the reason you do this dry run is to prevent an OOOPS and install that patch on the wrong location (out of reach while in the prone).

There, it's installed and I've got my breech flag in for you safety minded folks, so no worries here. And yes that's a Winnie Model 70 for you Remmy fans with yer short action receivers who wish you could seat your boolits out a bit further only to discover the magazine box limits your bullet seating length; that's why I shoot with a Winnie push feed.
Oh thanks for reminding me that I don't shoot the ORA PR matches; it's because I'm the Match Director and this season my shooting really sucks.
Okay, I'm digressing... back on track.
Now for you uber tactical dudes, this 2 round holder can be dismounted and then remounted on your velcro sleeved/shouldered patches for fast access. How's that for uber cool? I'm lovin' it!
Up next is the SAP Rifle Sling....
I've undone the retaining elastic bands for all of you to see....

I've deliberately positioned the QD swivels right alongside the flush cup swivels just to show what comes with the sling when you buy it from 693 Precision one of our board sponsoring businesses.
Now before I continue, understand that there are several reviews of the SAP Rifle sling out there on YouTube or Google. Do your own investigation and see if this sling is for you. I particularly like it because of it's materials and it's hardware, but I'm going to get back to you after reviewing this baby first.
Remember that this sling for for you tactical shooters / game players etc. You could use it for target rifle work but there are many more dedicated and purpose built slings for TR shooting. You know their marksmanship game with shooting jackets, single shot rifles, long 30" barrels, iron sights, and round black bullseyes. TR guys won't find this sling useful since the material won't stick or grab at your sling patches (rubber surface on the shooting jackets). This sling is made of tough nylon material and slides off your sleeve with just the right amount of slack, it's designed that way when you need to exfil from the slung rifle quickly.

So here's what I like about this sling iinitially, I love the way my support arm slides in the retaining loop, very slick. Quick to tighten up and quick to slack off immediately (for that moment when you have to unsling and PUFO). Oh yah, that's an acronym from the PPCLI: Pack up and take off.

Notice that their SAP logo is placed where it reminds you who made this puppy. I like that for low light conditions when I'm searching for that arm loop. Many of you shoot in broad daylight, we have to remember those whose mandate requires them to shoot in Service Conditions (enough said).
Now here is the one discovery that I truly love:

That curved FASTEX buckle allows a very rapid exit from the sling. Life is good.
I also love how the sling is easy to tighten up while in the prone or seated position. The steel hardware allows rapid cinching up; something my M1907 Biothane Turner Saddlery sling cannot do quickly.
This sling takes the 1907 sling concept up a couple of notches with the technology: the buckles and adjusters rock!
Should you get one of these slings? All depends on your shooting game. I would get one particularly if you play in the more modern 'shoot and scoot' sniper matches. I could use it in my NRA High Power games, but I prefer the slower and traditional M1907 sling. I would get one for the cool factor for sure since this sling might become your go-to sling for all your shooting games in the future.
One last look:

This sling is not for everybody. Let's make that clear. It's a step up from the classic M1907 sling and I would risk it by saying this sling takes that M1907 Service Rifle sling further into the future.
Now, that SAP 2 Round holder, that's for almost everyone....
Here is where to find the SAP Positional Rifle sling from 693Precision (board business, so hotlinking is allowed): http://693precision.com/SAP-Rifle-Sling-001.htm
And here is where you can find this SAP 2 round holder: http://693precision.com/SAP-2-Round-Holder-002.htm
I hope you found some useful information here. Now get out and shoot your PR rigs lots and lots.
Cheers and keep helping them noobies...
