Just to let you guys know, Doug has stopped by my deer camp every year for the last three years and he's a great guy to have around camp.

Highly recommended if you've got a spot open. I'd move him in with me but I never know if any of my guys are gonna back out till the last week before season.

would someone be able to explain what a hunt camp is, how it works and why one has to reserve a spot?

I am brand new to hunting and looking for some info on this topic.

Thank you

Derek

A hunt camp,is a building in the bush generally, with limited bed space.
The guys don't let just any arsehole in. They want a guy they can stand for two weeks. Better, one that loses at poker. :D
The building itself can be someones home, or cottage, or, like ours, a dedicated camp, bought by the members to hunt from.

i agree with JYC.
i would not like any guy of the street come into my camp and make himself broad, eat my womans' cooking and shoot up the place.

Five of us own the camp, at the moment, we pay as much as the rest of the guys hunting there. We have a lot of plans for the camp, so we're building the camp bank account.
When we feel we're done, (probably many years down the road) the other guys will pay, and we will hunt free. We're keeping it non-profit.

is this both your deer and moose camp?

My moose camp is similar, except that we are all (8) owners. Different bunch of guys, different area. Written agreement, no guests unless one of the owners takes a year off. We are on leased government land. We own only the building, and the ####ters :)
The territory, is one of the guys trapping area, and the local camps pretty much leave us alone.

old enough to have veteran plates on my truck.
i am old school!

i have seen enough drunks shooting up trucks, traffic signs, lifestock, ATV's and their own guides.
