Any opinions on this brand? My sister just asked me about it and I haven’t idea! She’s looking at a 12 gauge o/u. Any better options at the 599 she’s looking to buy for?

If I had a budget of $600, I would not be looking for a new O/U.

This^^^A friends brother showed up on a waterfowl hunt one day with a budget brand o/u he paid $500 for new. From day 1 he was plagued with problems. Even with heavy hunting loads 50% of the time the enertia block wouldn’t set the second shot properly, the trigger had so much creep it was actually loose and floppy not to mention felt like 10lbs pull. You could hear parts move back and forth in the receiver as you tilted the gun fore and aft and this gun didn’t even have a flat through it yet. She could add an extra $150 to $400 and buy a quality older used o/u in the EE like a Winchester 101 or Browning Citori.

Someone will be along shortly to tell Spank & Stubblejumper they have a friend who just put 6 trouble free shots through theirs over the last 3 months so they're good to go !

I'm also firmly in the "you can't get a decent new O/U in that price range" group. Buy a used Citori or get a decent pump gun and she'll be much happier in the long run.

I have two of their semi's. My wife shoots the 20 gauge and loves it. Good budget semi for a lady shooter that goes out maybe every other month. The 12 I bought they changed the wood and I wasn't as impressed, but it was light and had alot of options with chokes, shims and beads. I bought it for a truck semi and my only knock was it shot low and I needed to shim it to the max so it shot where I look... but I shoot a sporting model and a trap model as my clay guns and want something that shoots over 50-50.

Just asking for opinions for her.. she wants it because a family member trains hunting dogs and she needs a break open shotgun for something to do with that... not sure what else she just asked me about it today!

I’ll see if I can find anything on the EE she might be into

I'll be that guy. i have a tristar upland hunter from prairie gun traders. it's great, it shoots where i point it, i can shoot heavy 3 inch loads at ducks for a day and my shoulder isn't sore the next day. its light for going after pheasant with my dog. it was only 600$. the down sides are that it had a loose/mis aligned ejector so it started sliding past shells after the first couple boxes, 50$ at a gunsmith fixed it up and now it ejects great. the safety doesnt reset itself like my old merkel. i wouldnt hesitate to recommend it for a beginner over under. its not something a regular trap shooter is going to want but i dont see any problems with it for hunting. if it gets banged up its no big deal

From I see doing some minor digging, they are made by KRAL. KRAL makes Tristar. With a $600 budget, I would be looking at a decent pump(Browning BPS, Benelli, Remington Wingmaster), not an economy O/U. If she wants an O/U that will hold up to some use, she needs to at least double her budget, the least expensive, well made O/U is the Winchester 101 field, they start at $1500 new, a used Browning or Beretta can be had in that same price range would be money better spent then the Hunt Group O/U.

If she is using break action for dog training then get a good quality SINGLE BARREL 12 or 20 ga ... that is all will need...I know I train dogs too. If hunting birds then need to save up for a quality O/U or settle for a pump...12 or 20 will do. Generally in firearms you get what you pay for ... sometimes even less

I stay away from cheap over/unders. A friend bought a Stevens 555 a few years ago. He had nothing but problems. Luckily Stevens was good to him. He sent back 4 of them with various problems before he got one that works well. The most common problem was the 2nd barrel not firing but there were others that I can't remember.

NAVHDA only allows break action guns in the field for their events, so pumps are not an option. I shoot my SxS guns for our field days and for testing, but most people shoot an O/U or a single shot. For a budget gun, I would buy a single shot.

For not a lot more than the gun she is looking at. The owner may even take a lesser offer.
