I bought a Magellan explorist hunt 350h GPS and took it out for a trial run. I was intrigued by its gmu/wmu overlay and various other hunter extras. What I did not realize is that it only uses gmu numbering so region 2, for example, was only divided I to 2a and 2b. Does anyone have experience with this GPS and know if you can make it use wmu units for bc? I can't find it anywhere. Not sure how he 2 correlate either.

you can also down load an iphone at for hunting that has all the wmu for bc shown brother inlaw did last year worked great on our kootenay hunt even once you loose cell coverage as long as you have your gps location turned on it worked. cost I think was 5 bucks or so.

If you ask me, Garmin Rhino can't be beat for hunting and backwoods use. Includes FRS/GMRS and if you purchase from the states is 5 watts vs the 2 watts Canada is restricted to.

I have been using a GPS since they were available to the public for both work and play, IME Garmin is head and shoulders above the rest. Garmin is also what I used in all aircraft.

Thanks for the responses. I was hoping backroads made maps for magellan but they only do for Garmin. Going to take this gps back and get a Garmin. Have always been happy with them in the past. Thought about the phone app but hiking in rain and snow with my phone out doesn't sound like a good idea. If I was road hunting maybe. Thanks for the suggestion though.

IHunter BC is the app and it's amazing, all the MU info as well as LEH maps. Great map detail, waypoint markings, the add on lets you save your tracked trips. Plus you can pre save "cache" map data before you head out so you don't even need cell service.

No road hunting needed, just put your phone in a ziplock bag

Picked up an E-Trex 20 this summer. Very simple, runs forever on rechargeables, really like it. Not sophisticated but it is still a Garmin. Came with maps that has local old skid roads. Did not expect that. The WMU boundaries I did not look for.
