I am quite unhappy to find that my favourite rimfire hunting ammo, Winchester Power Point seems to have been either discontinued or something cause it is completely impossible to find.

I did a whole bunch of testing and found this to be quite accurate in my rifle and it has a lot more killing power than any other hollow point I have tried.

So does anyone have any suggestions as to a good .22 rimfire hunting ammo?

I saw some bulk ammo called Winchester Expert. The price is certainly right but I don't know how it might shoot. Federal also has a bulk hollow point ammo that is even cheaper.

I'm more interested in accuracy and killing power than in price but I do shoot a lot of the stuff so price can be a factor. ie I'm not buying Lapua or Eley ammo cause I'll go broke feeding my rifle.

CCI ammo seems to be pretty good. The Velocitors are supposed to be good, especially at longer ranges.

My ammo of choice for hunting are the CCI Velocitors. Just about anything the size of a fox and smaller past 50 yards is down. Very accurate out of my Cooey 60. I bought a bulk pack of Winchester X-Pert for plinking, and they group surprisingly well @ 100 yards. I'm getting 10 shot groups under 2.5" consistantly. My $0.02. -Jason

Try american eagles 38g hp. They group tight in my match barrel and they are around 13 a brick.Good for plinking or gopher blastin.

the winchester 22 expert are crap for anything other then plinking
and even then they suck i personaly recomend the federal gameshok 22lr hollowpoints for hunting and the federal champion hollowpoints for targets i havent tried any cci's stuff except the CB longs and there not much for a hunting round

Last I saw Power Points were available.... I picked up a brick a few weeks ago.
I like the deep cavity hollowpoint. They perform well out of my Mossberg. Next to the PP's, I'd go with velocitors.

I bought a couple bricks of mini mags for my MkII, but I'll have to try them in my Model 7000.

Good to know about the Winchester Expert. I won't bother to try them.

I did see the American Eagle HP. Maybe that is worth trying.

0.5" at 50 yds is OK but my rifle will put 5 rounds into the 0.3's with the Powerpoints. Hence the reason I liked them. :)

Yeah.....but I'm shooting a BROWNING! If a browning will shoot .5, imagine what an accurate gun will do!

My rem 513T won't close with the CCI Velo rounds either, but the mini-mag hollow points will group under 1/2" at 50 y and a around an 1.5" at 100.

Shot 2 boxes yesterday :)

My Savage MkII REALLY likes Stingers & Quik-shoks (~MOA). Both have the longer brass, so they probably won't help you. Too bad, 'cause they really do a nice job on critters

I tried some cci mini mags for the first time this weekend they are very good gopher killers. I also got good accuracy with the 38 gr American Eagle but I have not shot them at game yet so I can't speak to killing power. The federal bulk stuff is a crapy killer, a decent plinking round I have a couple of guns that like it OK, but it takes 2 or three hits to anchor a gopher if it's not head shot. I have one gun that really likes rem yelow jackets and those have good hiting power.

I like the American Eagle (federal) copper plated, 38gr, HP. they are quite accurate and have never gotten a dud or any other problems with them.

they are however a tad on the expensive side.
I think I payed like $20 for a brick of 400. yes i meant to put 400. for whatever reason they come in 400 round bricks not 500.

You didn't say what you were hunting for but I use Rem Yellow Jackets for ground hogs here in Ontario. They are as accurate as anything else I put through my Mossy 144 LS and hit hard. The local shop, Quinte Outdoor Sports is a Rem dealer so he always seems to have them when I need them.

I'll second (or third) the remington yellow jackets for hunting. They aren't the cleanest, or the most accurate in my marlin, but they work quite well on game and are my favorite .22 hunting round (that I've tried so far).
