Scout and knock on doors.
there are lots of turkeys around Owen Sound and lots of Grey county forest to hunt them in. Get a map of the county.
Ya I'll probably have to do that. Just seems so random to go up to a random house and ask to hunt on their land.Scout and knock on doors.
haha that was my thinking indeed. That's old school. Much easier to ask on the internet. That said, first person that answers I'll be getting to that spot super early in the morning! GPS location to your blind would be appreciated as well.
There are a ton around here usually. I was thinking of trying at the bognor marsh. It says online that they allow hunting there but they also have a few walking trails in there so that makes me nervous.there are lots of turkeys around Owen Sound and lots of Grey county forest to hunt them in. Ya I have to stop for them all the time on the way to work. This one property has them everyday so I guess I could try asking there. The problem is that they are building a house so I don't know if the homeowner is actually there at the moment.I don't hunt turkeys yet, but see all kinds of them in Grey County. I've had to stop my truck on back roads to let them cross! lol Most people in rural areas S of Owen Sound either hunt, or know people who do..so I suspect you would do OK with even a brief door-knocking campaign.
Thanks for the advice. This is what I'll do if my grandpa's nephew doesn't have suitable land. I know he has a farm but not sure if it has turkeys.Hey stark~I don't know anybody who likes the "asking permission" part of gaining access, but for those of us who weren't passed good hunting spots on a silver platter...it's a necessary evil. Every good spot I have I found on my own, every spot that was shared falls under the "sloppy seconds" category it seems. For me, I searched online...bugged/bribed...didn't help. Success only started to come after putting allot of time on the boots, and walking up to allot of farm houses and knocking on doors. Not everyone said yes, but those that didn't cited the fact that they have friends or family hunting the property already~which is totally understandable.
Stop and ask the contractors at that building site, and knock on the doors of every neighboring property. Introduce yourself, tell them where you live, how often you're hoping to hunt and what you're wanting TO hunt, when, etc. Don't show-up in camo, and don't do any door knocking on Sundays. I suspect that if you present yourself well, you'll get allot more "yes" than "no".
Thanks for the advice. Will do as reccommended.Scout out and about, early am just as sun starts making things bright, and at night i find best just as the sun is setting about an hr before
