I have been looking all over the place for hunting locations and found 1 hunting reserve spot near the 401. There has been nothing each time I have went, and I am just looking for somewhere to go trail hunting. Go out for a walk and potentially walk out with a few grouse or pheasants. Anyone know a spot to go that doesn't take 2-3 hours to drive to?

there are, google ontario crown land maps, there is actually a dedicated sight, cant recall it of the top of my head, keep this thread on top and someone with a link is bound to pop in

or go fes pages back in this part of forum, this jas been given few times this year already

Yeah I found an interactive map, but it was a pita to understand. Nothing is really defined, or I couldnt make out what was what..

If I just knew some spots, it would be amazing. At this point im contemplating train tracks.

The hunting reserve that you talk about sounds like Brighton WMU, which used to be popular for it's ad hoc shooting range (not sure if it's still there).

I recall seeing lots of rabbits there when 4 wheeling with a friend after visiting the range. I don't know where the rabbits might be in their cycle, but perhaps trying the spot early and late in the day will at least get you a few of those.

If you have access to a canoe and a small spread of Mallard decoys, a couple of the blinds in the inner marsh at Presqu'ille should also provide some decent waterfowl action. I had a couple good days there with a friend of mine years ago.

I'm not familiar enough with the Crown Land in the areas listed to provide any leads, but am pretty sure that you'd find enough for decent hunting with a bit of scouting and research.

not much for crown land around here as far as I know, the Brighton conservation area is the only public land I know of. I have been out quite a few times looking for grouse and have only flushed up one. I think they may be in a low cycle right now. The last time I saw a pheasant around here was 3 or 4 years ago while I was bow hunting whitetail, have not seen any since.
