Hunting Camp

Don't do the hunt camp away thing very often but when I do we just rent a little two bedroom cottage in one of two areas we hunt. One on Lake Temiskaming if we are chasing waterfowl in the area, the other in a remote area where we sometimes do a few days of grousing and fishing.

I'm the only civilian in my hunting party this year- I don't get to sleep in mod tent, I'm told I get to sleep on my own... I'm bringing my one-person sleeping kit (a small dome tent with a tarp for overtop and a pair of winter-weight sleeping bags), with the option to sack-out in my van if I feel the need to get off the ground more. Van has a 12v heater and a second battery, so that might be the better choice.

Any hunt camp is a good one in my books! The majority of my experience is backpacking with tents, but I have to admit though that being warm and dry at night has special perks to it. One day.....

For quite a few years we camped in an old Winnibago in the woods, but when the old thing finally gave out, we switched to a couple of units in a resort, which was pretty decent but a bit pricey and a fairly long drive to the hunt area. The last few years we've been roughing it in a 5 bedroom so called cottage complete with hot tub, pool table, air hockey table, large screen TV, 2 fireplaces, 2 complete bathrooms, and all the modern appliances you could use including a washer and dryer for the days we get soaked by rain or snow. Its much closer to the hunt area and costs much less than the resort. Tough to take, but somebody's got to do it.

Been hunting in Northern AB with 3 buddies in late November for years. Our usual accommodations are a wall tent and an older C-class motor home. Of course all the other support equipment to go along with it -- 2 or 3 trucks to haul in the wood stove, generators, fuel, gear and 2 quads... and a flat deck to haul the moose out (hopefully). Works well for us, but admittedly a little bit of a production. Gotta love hunting!

Beans and any form of cabbage would be off the menu if I were bunking in those quarters!

Hunters cabin made from dead fall, notched and stacked, tarp roof over spaced perlongs... protection from wild life and the elements. Have a few of them made in and around my hunting spots

The family hunt camp. Started out as my great grandfathers homestead in the early 1900s. Weve kept it in good shape, and expanded it. Now has 16 beds. We own 500 acres, and have permission for about 1700 more around us.

The camp. We power via generator, have propane stove and fridges, and no running water. Bathing is done in a sauna (we're Finns, lol)

Looking down our field. Fields about 800m long for some perspective.

Can i come hunt with you guys? I'm not a Finn but i can swill Finlandia like it's water. I promise i won't dance naked in the sauna. Honest. :D

You guys and guys from southern ontario have a lot in common! (yes, yes i did just say that but let me qualify it before you kill me please) I live in north eastern ontario and for the past week have been seeing almost nothing but the same type of "mobile hunt camps" coming up the highway. Season opens saturday morning. Can't wait. :dancingbanana:

I've been building my "camper" this past week , taking my flat deck (18 x 8'6" deck) . Made a gear box at the front 4' x4' x 8' , and 4'x7' interlocking panels for the walls and 4x8 for the roof made using two sheets of 3/8 plywood , 1.5 inch styrofoam insulation and 2x4 's . My work schedule makes it retardedly difficult to plan anything with others so I made this as a way to be able to set up camp alone and still have tons of room for quad and gear . Should be very comfy I think - picked up carpet yesterday ... started doing the mock up in the driveway last night , should be done over the weekend and out in the field next week - crossing my fingers .

Loving the pics! Hopefully I'll have a few (as well as maybe some game) after this weekend, heading to Pratt Lake, BC this weekend.
