I was planning on taking the hunting course being offered by a local firearms education school.

Can anyone here who's from the Province of Ontario who took this course tell me what is involved in the course and what the exam is about and how long/what are the class hours for this course? Is there are practical exam at the end also for the handling of a rifle, etc etc?

The course at this school looks like it is being taught in conjunction with the PAL course. My concern is that this sounds to me like I'll actually be re-doing the PAL classes unnecessarily just in order to take a different exam at the end. I was hoping this would be a half-day (4 hour) class where at the end I'd take a multiple choice test and be done with it. The way this school has it set up, I'd be going in for a whole day one day, and half a day the next.

Most instructors do 2 days from what I remember. And no you don't have to re do the pal course.

Do yourself a favour and find a rural instructor and book a course through them usually cheaper to boot.

My wife did her hunting course with Ready Aim Firearms in Oakville. It was a 1 day 12 hour course. She said the instructors were great. If you are in th GTHA give them a call.

There was no practical.
For me it took a day and a half because I added the Turkey course to the package.

I forgot about the turkey portion. If you want to do the turkey exam during your hunting course, order the DVD from OFAH and watch it first.

All the info you'll need is right here www.ohep.net Welcome aboard and good luck.

UPDATE:

Ok dudes, I did both the hunting course and the Wild Turkey exam both yesterday and today. I wrote both exams this afternoon.

Had 4 wrong answers on the hunting exam and a perfect score on the wild turkey exam.

Now I just need to submit the paperwork to Services-Ontario! Whooo
