Can you hunt coyotes on crown land or do you need a special licence? Say if you are out deer hunting anyway and you run across a coyote.

I know on private land the rules are different as coyotes are seen as predators of livestock so therefore they can be legally shot any time.

Depends on Province, but that isn’t correct in BC. You can legally shoot any animal that is in the act of attacking your livestock, but a coyote wandering across the field at midnight isn’t necessarily fair game.

That said, coyotes in BC are classified as small game and have bag limits and seasons. Your regular hunting license covers you for small game.

Every province has their own hunting and trapping regulations. Since you don't state where you're from, it's impossible to answer your question.

Interesting that only reg6 has a bag limit on coyotes, all the rest that list them in the general open season charts are nbl during their open season.

Op, you gotta tell us what Province you’re in. Here in eastern Ontario it comes under your small game license and no tags required so seeing one in deer season, have at it. Different areas of Ontario have different rules and different provinces have different rules as well.

I knew that one or two regions still had a bag limit, but I couldn’t remember which one(s).
I seem to recall years ago that other regions had a bag limit as well, but I’m not positive that I’m remembering that correctly either.

I live in Ontario also, as bush1 mentioned some areas are small game license only and others small game with a wolf / coyote tag.

Currently Reg1 doesn’t list them in the open season, Reg6 has a bag limit of 10 and the other Reg’s are all nbl. Didn’t look at the trapping regs as I don’t do any.
