just a thought , would there be any interest I if I started a thread of mostly hunting / working type of rescue dogs in need of homes ?

I was thinking of just passing along pictures , breed , location and contact information .......

nothing more ( meaning no pictures of animals in distressed situations begging for money for some international org ) .....

any thought , ideas ?

I think thats a great idea, I would definately be interested in that

It has merit for sure. Given the networking ability of this national forum, moving the the dogs to and fro could be easily facilitated.

sounds like a good idea.
what would be the criteria for the canines? would it be possible to list any hunting breed (beagle , retriever etc')or must it be any dog that has had hunting training or experience?
and how would it work?
i know a few people that work at animal rescues and shelters and they do get hunting breed dogs in on occasion looking for homes.

Awesome idea.

We just adopted a little fella from Rocky Mountain Rescue.

These pooches need all the help they can get.

I've been casually looking for a dog .... mainly gsp vizsla wiem family .....

what I have found is a lot of rescues that specialise in hunting / working dogs .... so I was thinking of reposting most , if not all of their ads for homes .

criteria ? .... I was thinking of setting the bar really low .... basically , breathing and in need of a home ..... :D

so for example would it be ok to list a 6 month old lab cross that has never been trained?
if so than i would know about 3 to 6 dogs off the top of my head.

Maybe you can contact some of the national / City rescue websites to coordinate

i was thinking about that .... but a lots of places that foster dogs are already doing this .... the first that come to mind are dogwood rescue society and a few people who help out there ( check out "ifitwags " on facebook and instagram . )

for now I'm just thinking about relaying information to a "new market " so to speak .

this sounds great, so how do we get it started?

I did start a separate thread reposting information from dogwood rescue society for now ........

beyond that , maybe a separate area , broken down into provinces that available dogs are located .....
but are the people running cgn game for that ?
it would also need to be moderated and updated ...... it could turn into a unpaid full time job if a person isn't careful .

if you know of some dogs in need of a home in your area , maybe make a thread , with the name and location of the rescue in the title , and post the pics of the dogs there with their information and contact information .

You are going to break my heart. I have had 3 German Shorthair pointers, the last being the one in my avatar. Would have another in a minute, but my wife can no longer walk dogs at night when I am away.

wally the gsp in the other thread is very similar to the first gsp I met and fell in love with ..... my current situation doesn't allow to adopt him ( that can change ) but that doesn't mean I can't try to help him find a home either ..... any dog that catches his own deer deserves a high 5 and a bbq .....

then there is that tan coloured redbone coonhound .... I can see her sleeping on my couch :D .......

I haven't had to move yet for work ..... but it may happen soon or at least some sort of fly in / fly out situation .......

then there is the neighbours stumpy tailed cattle dog ..... ( she is in my profile pic ) ....
my neighbors dad sold his farm and moved to town ( he is some sort of old age home that doesn't take dogs ) .

my neighbor is gone a lot , so she leaves the dog outside all day .

after a couple months of watching me from the other side of the fence , she came over and I became her human . ( I didn't now her name so I called her cookie , short for cookie monster )

when she is let out she comes looking for me and hangs out with me ..... most of the time she goes home by herself ... a few times I have walked her home to make sure she was not left outside .

now this is where thing get interesting ......

a couple mornings ago I was awoken to wet dog nose ....... somehow he cookie monster has learned to open doors ( I had left the back door unlocked ) .

the next morning I go outside and there is a pissed off cattle dog on my door step .

i locked my door last night .............

and she couldn't open it this morning .

when she wants something she places her left paw on me , the goes over and points at what she wants ........
... she placed her left paw on me quietly growled , and repeatedly pawed me with it , then walked over to the door knob , pointed at it , then started barking ( she hardly ever barks ) ..... she then repeated this a couple times ...........

i then gave her a couple cookies and she was all happy again .....

and today she ripped apart a couple garbage cans .... she is pissed off that the door was locked ......

edit ......

for anyone curious her previous owners circumstances changed and she has been living with me now for two weeks .
if all "heelers" are similar to her , they may very well be one of the best dogs out there .... or maybe we are just really well matched .....

Sorry I'm not sure where the other more official thread is, but for anyone in the Golden Horseshoe (Ontario), there is http://www.pointingdogrescuecanada.ca/ . They are fantastic and having the usual challenge of trying to get enough awareness to make those word of mouth connections to find homes for the doggies.

I was going to include them ..... but a few months ago they where heavily promoting some peta type antihunting group on their facebook page .

I messaged them several times about this publicly and privately with no response , apology or even retraction of the posts . { I did just look for the posts and they appear to have sanitised the page , there was a lot of outrage by many people over this } .

I feel this is similar to a company like Remington publicly supporting a group like peta .

also if I m going to be volunteering my time to a group I prefer to have some sort of communication with them , and at the very least have them aware of what I am doing and where their dogs are being promoted .
again nothing but silence from these people .

dogwood rescue society on the other hand , very open and honest communication . they are eager and enthusiastic and know exactly what these dogs are bred for , and do not mix politics or personal beliefs that they may have with rescuing these dogs .
