Hunting down south (Windsor area)

Just out of curiosity on what the hunting scene is like down in and around the Windsor area. I was told that deer hunting is only by bow and that your not aloud hunting with a .30 calIber rifle. Just trying to figure if I'm going to make the 8-9 hour trip all the way back up north for hunting.
 
Deer hunting is BOW only around Windsor area. No rifle hunting but there are several WMU's that have a shotgun/muzzleloader season close to here. One other consideration is that if you don't know anyone with land good luck finding a property to hunt. It's extremely tough to get permission as it is almost all privately owned land and either someone is already hunting it or the owners are opposed to hunting.

What he said.....I have lived in the Windsor area since 1965 and have never been able to find or get permission for a farm to hunt.. I travel to Manitoulin
 
In Windsor you have General Gun ...indoor pistol and rifle range and Windsor Sportsman for skeet and trap and archery...outdoor. Are you planning to shoot restricted in that case you need to be a member or know a member that will bring you as a guest. send me a pm and i can get you more info if needed
 
Rondeau rod and gun in Blenheim has a 100m outdoor rifle range. We also have 2 trap fields 2 skeet fields a indoor pistol range and a 5 stand course. PM me if you need details. We have many windsor shooters

A lot of bow only deer areas, a few areas with controlled shotgun/muzzle loader deer seasons, no rifle deer season, no rifles over .270 for coyotes or other game, and extremely difficult to find land to hunt if you don't know anyone. Most land is privately owned and either already hunted or owned by anti-hunting folks.
 
I live between London and Windsor, out in the country. I have a wood lot behind my house that I have permission to hunt, but to have the woodlot to myself I cut some of the landowners grass and plow his snow in the winter.
Trespassers are a huge problem for me, I work for my spot to hunt, most trespassers think that they have a right to hunt anywhere.
I have the support of the local game warden and he will not hesitate to fine trespassers for whatever he can.
One trespasser just laughed at the game warden as he gave him his fine saying he didn't care and would be back next year to do it again.

My son and I have had our hunt ruined by trespassers on more that 1 occasion.

A farmer friend of mine pulls a stand or two off his property every year. He'll leave a nice little note with a phone number to call to get it back, but no one has ever called. He will usually hold onto them for a couple of years in the barn before he gives them away.
