 My husband and I went into the local Hunting/fishing store (THE PAVILLON CHASSE ET PECHE IN GRANBY, Quebec) last night with a borrowed crossbow to have the string changed.... After spending over 3,000$ there last year alone, my husband approached the owner (whom we know by name) and asked if was possible to have the string changed. He immediately looked at the crossbow & realized it hadn't been purchased from his store, and turned into a complete *&^%$ ! He told us that he didn't have any strings for it and that we should take it back to where it was bought! My husband (having his charming personality in his pocket) turned around and muttered something & the owner actually followed us out of the store yelling that he didn't even sell that type of &^&%&^%* crossbow, so why would he change it.........Well, needless to say we left! What the owner didn't realize was that while we were there, we had planned on buying a brand new excalibur....... Oh well! We went to another store only about 5 minutes away & the people were very courteous & helpful & said it would be no problem to change the string & that it would be ready this morning. We will now be giving all of our business to these nice people at AU PIED DU ROCK GRIS in Granby, Quebec.... Does this guy at the Pavillon not understand that since we live in somewhat of a small community, that he really can't afford to treat customers the way he did......??

WOW, what an a$$, you did the good thing by going somewhere else, thanks for mentionning. Bad day or not, this is just wrong business.

Good luck for the upcomming hunting season. :)

boycott them all, mail order everything from the west! It's the only way to go! ;)

with gun stores fewer and fewer that may be the only way to purchase soon. It is really nice to pick up, touch, feel, caress .........Ooops sorry :D It would be nice to have a sense of fit instead of just a picture and a blurb.....I wish I had more choices for purchasing

Trust me..... we're not all like that!! :)

I've been to Quebec a few times and I would have to say most of you are not like that. Honestly sounds more like Toronto to me. I once took an old crossbow into a bowshop here in Ontario to see if was worthwhile buying ( seller didn't know much about it and neither did I, so he agreed to let me have the shop look it over). They checked it over, sold me a new string, some wax, and 6 bolts with field points for a whopping $70 or so. They could have just as easily told me it was junk and tried to sell me a new one. That was a few years back. It shocks me that in our current economic state that businesses aren't bending over backwards to keep their customers happy.

Ok....scratch that store off my list. I remember last year looking for that store, but could not find it. Is that the store that moved a couple years ago, because I must have had an old address and it was a music store when I went lol

That's funny. A long time ago I bought a float tube from Walmart. It just came in, had a ton of features and the price was right. It was my first tube so I grabbed it up right there. When I looked at it, the tag said pump it up to 3 PSI. I thought it seemed too low but that was ok because I was going to the sporting goods shop I enjoyed the most for some new spinnerbaits. I'd just ask him. (We only had two) When I got there I found my lures, some line and a few other odds and ends. When I got to the counter I put my stuff down and asked "Hey by the way, I just got this tube but it only called for 3 pounds. Does that sound right?"

Well Holy Hell, he went into a fit of rage about me asking for free advice. If I wanted a tube he had just as good a unit right there I could have bought, (it wasn't) and got all the free advice I wanted. He wen't on and on. I left and never set foot in there again for about a decade. When I started to go back, he was a nice guy again. But man, what a way to lose business.

I emailed the store owner yesterday, thinking I'd either get a nasty note back or just be ignored but to my surprise, I had a very long winded (pleasant) letter in my inbox this morning from him. He appologized over and over, and explained his frustration also. So, in his defense, I must say that he sucked it up & took it like a man!! I just might go back there - although I'm pretty sure the husband won't! Thanks ! :)

I wouldnt go back he was being a ass and I only give retailers one shot if they treat me like garbage thats it. How did he know if it was bought second hand or if it was for a friend he didnt, he just treated his customers like trash.

I'd give him a second chance but not a third. Go back for something else, ask some questions, look at some stuff, and see how he is. without telling him who you are, let his attitude the second time determine if he warrants repeat business. If he's rude again, then... I can imagine the follow up email. lol
