Funny stories.
I have only truly party hunted once, for moose. Here in NB, we have two guns to one tag. I was fully prepared to split half with my partner, but we didn't get one.
Other than that - I hunted bears for three summers, two of them with a buddy. I did most of the work, built the stand, lugged all the bait the first year, most of the bait the second year. The first year, I shot a bear because I put more time in, and he didn't. The second, he shot a bear and I didn't, even though I put my time in still. He offered me some meat, but as far as I was concerned, it was his bear, his meat. He apologized for my lack of success, when I put most of the work in, but it was all good. I was happy to see him succeed.
I hunt ducks with the same guy all the time. We started out with me owning all the gear and him owning none. Now he owns all the gear too, and we mostly use his gear (sometimes mine, and I try to make sure I have my fair share of decoys available, even if he doesn't want to use them), and he usually drives. We are pretty good friends and it hasn't been an issue so far. I'll do my best to ensure it won't be, and so will he.
Gotta find friends you can trust. I agree, OP, your hunting "partner" sounds like a wanker.
