hunting in the Thompson/Nicola, BC?

I'm a greenhorn who plans on getting his PAL and CORE this coming May.

in any case, I know that up the Jamieson creek way, there's lots of deer hunting. I'm also interested in some bird and perhaps small game like rabbit.

I think I need someone to help me navigate the regulations and such. I have several probable mentors, but anything I can learn ahead of time would help me greatly.

does anyone who knows what's what in this area have any words of wisdom or a few pearls they can spare me?

If you pay attention at the CORE class and study the regulations synopsis carefully, you'll have a good start. There are plenty of grouse and snowshoe hare opportunities up there too.

You'll probably meet some folks who also have some advice in your CORE course.

Don't just get a PAL, get your RPAL while you're at it. You'll want it later, trust me.


Also, good on you, take the CORE course. There is a section in the course that deals with the regulations, and how to read them if I recall.

Then you will be able to make more pointed requests about the areas you want to hunt.

Jamieson Creek is pretty close to Kamloops. When I lived there (left 4 years ago) I found that there were lots of road hunters that went up that way. If you don't mind going a bit further, go on the other side of the river and head north to the Little Fort area. LOTS of logging roads up there with all sizes and ages of cut blocks. Mostly Mule deer, but there are some Whitetails, black bears as well as some moose if you get drawn in the LEH. As for small game, I mostly only saw grouse, but once in a while I would see rabbits.

Also, there is a backwoods roads map booklet that is available that will show "MOST" of the logging roads. Should be able to get one at Canadian Tire. Don't rely too much on them, use only as a guideline, because they are not always updated with roads that are new, decomissioned or washed out.
