I've mentioned I am not much of a hunter before on some of my other posts. I do have the utmost respect for hunters and it is a hobby I hope to grow into one day.

As firearm owners I believe we have the obligation to stand up for eachother when wrong things are said.

"Hunting is a coward's pastime" is written in this internationally published news article. I for one always try to put in a quick two cents in the comments of firearms related news articles and what not just to quickly and respectfully debunk some of the garbage that today's media puts out there.

Here is a link to the article. This strikes me as the same over reaction that occurs when there is a mass shooting, ignorant people jump to the conclusions that something needs to be banned in order to prevent that from happening again even though we all know that that is not the case.

I encourage anyone who this bothers to take two seconds and chime in. It just may help change the cancerous views of some.



@stubblejumper: I do not know of the specifics for the permits that the dentist had, I am not sure of his past record or if he has indeed been convicted of poaching. My post was more to encourage everyone to speak on the topic of hunting and defend hunting in general. I was not necessarily saying to defent the dentist, but to defend this hobby/lifestyleactivity that this country was founded upon.

Big game hunting is a significant source of outside revenue in parts of Africa.

This revenue places a value on the animals and has led to their management and to the preservation of their habitat.
 
I am very much a hunter, and I will defend hunting, but I won't support a dentist that has previously been convicted of poaching, for killing a lion illegally. There was no valid permit for lion, where the lion was killed, so the lion was in fact poached. Unfortunately this illegal act has fired up the antis, and in the end, all hunters will suffer because of this.

Nor have I. The ignorance of people really shows when things like this happen. Everyone wants an instant feeling of gratification by these fallacies that they think will "help".

I agree, no mercy for poachers is correct. However I do not know the whole story with the dentist, what his situation actually was, so I don't want to comment on that issue itself.

As to their being no permit for lion. Apparently the PH tried to dispose of the collar, so that the authorities would not know that the lion was killed in an area with no quota for lion.



Palmer is reportedly being sought by the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority, which has already charged Palmer’s guide, Theo Bronchorst, and a landowner, Honest Trymore Ndlovu.

“Theo Bronchorst, a professional hunter with Bushman Safaris is facing criminal charges for allegedly killing a collared lion on Antoinette farm in Gwayi Conservancy, Hwange district on 1 July 2015,” stated the agency in a press release. “The lion named ‘Cecil’ was well known and regularly sighted by tourists in the Main camp area of Hwange National Park. It is alleged that the hunter connived with the Antoinette land owner, Mr. Honest Trymore Ndlovu to kill the lion. Ongoing investigations to date, suggest that the killing of the lion was illegal since the land owner was not allocated a lion on his hunting quota for 2015. Therefore, all persons implicated in this case are due to appear in court facing poaching charges.”

As to Palmer's record.

Palmer illegally shot a black bear outside a designated hunting zone in the US state of Wisconsin in 2006, court records showed.

He pleaded guilty to lying to federal authorities about the location of the kill in 2008, paid a nearly $3,000 fine and was required to forfeit the bear's remains.

As I posted previously, I am an avid hunter, but I can not support this individual. If hunters unite to support his actions, we all look bad in the eyes of the public.
 
Well I just took a "friend" to task on his anti-hunting comments on Facebook, he messaged me and called me a murderer. Then unfriended me good riddance, he is a bit of a socialist anyways.
 
Yeah... not really into defending that D-B@g who illegally, poached an endangered animal... then left the lions meat to rot in the sun... and yes I do a bit of legal, responsible hunting myself.

Of course, not really a fan of PEATA either but will pass on saying anything in defense of that individual who really made things worse for any legitimate hunter who respects nature, and the law.
 
Sport hunting is obviously a touchy subject. I find it hard to chime in because I can't think of a use for a lion carcass. Presumably, if he wanted a lion trophy this was not the outcome he expected at all. I feel terrible for all involved.
 
While not a hunter myself, I do respect legitimate hunters as I have found them to be quite ethical when it comes to use of carcass and ensuring a clean kill as best that can be expected...

Similar to certain religions and gun owners, there are a small percentage of douches in every category that ruin the optics from the many good and honest people...

Tying a carcass to a vehicle to lure it out of a park probably should have been an early warning... but it may depend on what the "guides" said...
 
All I'll say is that it would really help if people would take the time to educate themselves on the topics they're posting about.
It's a sad state of affairs when hunters take the leftist media and animal rights activist reports as the gospel truth.
 
A hunter is a person who chooses the lawful path of putting healthy organic food on his table for himself and his family, he is not breaking any laws. A poacher is a criminal who has broken the law by taking the act of being a hunter and working outside the law. The two are not the same that is the education required.
