how does she hold up to rain and such? I currently use a river bag for all my camping and outdoor excursions, which is completely water proof. Its one of my hang ups that my stuff must be dry, however it is not the best bag for packing around and i am looking for a better one.
Which one, I have many . For a pack along the same idea as Chucks I am ordering the MR Crew Cab with three load cells and a top lid. My favorite big pack now is the MR 6500 with the Nice overkill frame, it is always loaded and ready to go
The nice thing about packs is we buy what suits us not anyone else. I am sure Chucks choice is what he wanted in a pack and thats all that matters.
the closer and thinner stuff is to your back the better. The more weight that gives mass making the ruck look like a big turtle shell is going to put allot of stress on your shoulders. even with a good belt. keeping the weight high will be your best bet.
I highly recommend a old canadian airborne ruck sack from a military surplus store. cheep and great.
The sleeping bag sits up top. You can walk allot of km with this settup and live for a few days in the bush.
U can not see me in this picture, That was the group from CFB Borden, I was with CFB Edmonton. This however is the Nijemgen annual march in Nijmegen Holland. 4 days of 40km each day and we had to do over 700km in work up tanning. We wore the average style ruck over there
but fitted right worked very well.
Biggest thing I think in a good back pack for the bush is the thickness of the shoulder straps, belt, and how it feels on ur back.
I cant seam to find a pic of the new ruck we use to show u. its custom fitted, very nice and very guchi but way to big IMO. I also believe the less you have the better your chances of survival are. gota keep it basic some times.
I just got a Timberhawk pack for my dayhunting pack. I really like it and the quality is good. Lots of good features and the ability to keep often used items close at hand is important to me. I also like the hydration system. I dont currently need a large hunting pack nor do I need to pack out the meat on my back where I hunt.
