Our hunting seasons start early here, so we see a huge range of temperatures. As a result, I've gotten used to buying light weather proof or resistant outer layers and adding as much polypro and fleece as I need underneath. I need a pair of pants to fit into this method. Can anybody recommend a good pair of quite, light weight hunting pants that will keep the weather out, without breaking the bank?

in really warm weather i just wear a pair of pulmans, or pulsons or whatever it is they sell at walmart for $18, cooler and i add a pair of wool long johns. in cooler weather i wear a pair of carhart canvas pants ($70), they are very rugged. when it is cold out i have a pair of old swedish army wool pants that i think were $40. and in really cold weather (-30) i wear a pair of insulated coveralls that i got free at work.

crappy tire sells colman camo, not a bad bang for the buck and you can get lightweight or heavier stuff, I just got some waterproof ones from there and wear track pants inside them when it gets colder out, other than that Im in for the carhart pants all the way , they take a hell of a beating and dont wear out, and of course im famous for wearing CAT sandals while hunting, there comfy/great tread and quiet

I have a pair of 1951 Belfast Woolen Mills British army wool pants and a pair of german army wool pants for a spare for the cold stuff.

Worn over long johns you could sleep in a blizzard in them.

I've been wearing US Mil. ECWCS, but it's loud. Carhart is great when things are dry, but I don't want to stay in camp just cause it's wet. I like wool, except for the whole water issue. Yeah, it's a warm wet, but it's still wet. I just picked up some Mad Dog stuff on Ebay for cheap to get me through until I can splurge on some really good stuff. I'm sure my ancestors would agree on the kilt, but they make getting up into treestands more of an adventure than I'm looking for!!!

I use ex-Bundeswehr gore tex bib pants. Awesome deal if you can find them in good condition surplus. And flecktarn is even ###ier than the above picture.

Good if you hunt a lot in the wet.
