Hey there

I'm not the hunting type, I pretty much just like to plink and shoot targets. I'm wondering though, if there are any birds or other animals that you can hunt in BC WITHOUT getting a hunting licence?

TIA

Schedule C

Schedule "C" animals can be captured
or killed anywhere and at any time in BC.

Schedule “C” birds may be hunted using electronic
calls. You do not need a hunting licence
to hunt or kill the following
Schedule “C” wildlife:

(a) Rana catesbeiana - American bullfrog
(b) Rana clamitans - green frog
(c) all species of the family Chelydridae -
snapping turtles
(d) Didelphis virginiana - North American
opossum
(e) Sylvilagus floridanus - eastern cottontail
(f) Oryctolagus cuniculus - European rabbit
(g) Myocastor coypus - nutria
(h) all species of the genus Sciurus - gray
squirrels and fox squirrels
(i) Passer domesticus - house sparrow
(j) Sturnus vulgaris - European starling
(k) Columbia livia - rock dove (domestic
pigeon)

Plenty of Grey squirrels in Vancouver eh .............. ;)

Just remember that most cities will have firearm discharge prohibitions within their boundaries.

Now what about Coyotes? I cant find them listed anywhere I've looked so I dont know if that a yes or no.

Start with the Regulations. Can find them here

http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/wildlife/hunting/regulations/1214/docs/hunting_trapping_2012_2014.pdf

As per the preceding post, see "schedule C" if not on the schedule... Also see the definition of small game and go from there (dont need a specie license but do need a hunting license). For under $200 can take a CORE course...
