I and torn between the T3 and the X Bolt in 270.

Can I ask for any advice?

Scope choice is already made, Vortex Diamondback.

Many thanks,

PG

My son has a Tikka T3 hunter, great rifle, I think either is a great choice. I was and still am an A bolt fan. Which is a better fit for you?

The Tikkas are nice rifles, and I have handled a couple, but I prefer the X-Bolt. I have a Stainless Stalker X-bolt and I am quit happy with it so far,...light and balanced,...accurate,...smooth reliable function,...I like the detachable rotary magazine,...and on the composite stock models the grippy, rubbery Dura Touch Armor Coat is excellent. The X-Bolt has a bit shorter bolt lift than the Tikka, 60 degree vs 70 degree.
You probably can't go wrong with either. If you can, go handle both rifles and see which one YOU like best,....A friend of mine was trying to decide between the Tikka and X-Bolt and I suggested he handle both to see which one fit him best and he ended up buying the Tikka.

Now,.. with all that being said,..I still like my A-Bolt II Medallion best of all, lol.

I have 2 Xbolts and 2 T3's. I tthink they are both good rifles. The Xbolts seem to feel like they are better quality due to the stocjk and metal trigger guard. The Tikkas have a better trigger in my opinion.
I have found that my Tikkas are slightly more accurate then my Xbolts. But nothing you would ever notice in a hunting situation. I prefer the safety on the xbolts.
I think either way you won't go wrong with either rifle. Whichever appeals to you most go with. They both will shoot well

Whenever someone at the gun counter asked me if they should get a browning or a tikka (usually after establishing they didn't want a savage) I would tell them to shoulder both and see which one fits better. Both have a fair bit of variety in terms of stock etc.

For the purposes of the thread:

I am another tikka fanboy. Long live the Tikka, king of the mass production push feed rifles. Made for long action cartridges, just as god intended. I feel like the market for aftermarket parts for the Tikka is growing, but the stock parts are good enough for me. Except the recoil pad, that thing is brutal.

Thank you so much for all the input, it is much appreciated!

if you have a whole sale sports or cabelas, or any other store close by that has lots of brands, go down and fondle as many as you can, , when i bought my xbolt , it was actually down to a savage or the browning, they justt felt the best and shouldered the best for me

Honestly, both are great. Price is the biggest differentiator.... or is it?

Assuming you're buying an extra magazine, an extra mag is $60 for the X-Bolt, and $100 for the T3. Also, with the T3, you need a $45 recoil pad.

Add those to the rifle prices, and they're almost the same price.

I don't consider a pot metal trigger guard to be better than a fiber reinforced plastic trigger guard. Nor do I consider the X-Bolt's rough cast piece of junk bolt shroud to be better than the Tikka's plastic decoration (it does nothing, nothing good and nothing bad)

I'd go for the Tikka, myself. They fit me like no other rifle, but that's just me. If X-bolts fit, I'd be happy as a clam with one.

I am an X-bolt guy. I know a lot of folks despise Browning Trade marking of everything but they really did get this particular rifle right. Tikkas are nice but the stocks are just "meh" for me and I really don't like the one size for all action designs but this is just an esthetics thing for me as they are really good rifles. Magazines are not exactly cheap for the Tikka as well. Good luck with whatever you pick.
