My primary go to rifle is a 35 Whelen with fixed sights and a removable scope in Leupold quick release rings. This system works extremely well for me for both moose and deer hunting. I can confidently shoot several hundred yards with it, yet pop the scope off and stuff it in my pack and use the iron sights when pushing bush, still hunting, etc.
Additionally, I like knowing that when on a fly-in trip if my scope fails that I have the open sights.
I recently aquired Model 70 in 300WSM SS as my beloved Whelen is getting a little fragile and I'd like something I can abuse a little more.
My plan was to shoot it and see if I liked it. If I did, I was going to have open sights installed on it. I mounted a quality scope in Leupold QRW's and I love the rifle. Everything just reels right.
Now I'm thinking instead of putting open sights on it, I should mount one of the Leupold prismatics, or a delta point. Does anyone have any experience with either of these sights? Alternately, I guess I could mount a low power scope on it. Thoughts, ideas, Suggestions?
