Hunting Scope Recommendation

I just picked up a Browning BLR in .308 and I'm looking to put some optics on it. I'll be hunting moose and deer in central Ontario where most shots are under 75 yards. We have a couple blinds that overlook some open field so a 300+ yard shot is not unlikely either but not often. We do a lot of drive hunts with men and dogs with the occasional still hunt as well if we don't have numbers. So the animals are usually moving quickly in thick cover. That's the use case most likely.

I've decided on variable magnification, something like 1.x-4/5/6 I even looked at 2-7 but I really like the big field of view a 1x gives for those quick moving deer in thick cover.

From my looking around I really like the expensive stuff (except the price of course) like:
Leupold VX6 1-6x24.
Zeiss Conquest DL 1.2-5x36.
Meopta Meostar R1 1.5-6x42.

Or the Leuopold VX3 1.75-6x32 looks pretty great also at a little lower price point. I'm not stuck on any brand, I have a Leupold VX1 Shotgun 1-4x on my Browning Gold with rifled barrel (which I'm moving away from for deer/moose hunts) and a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 on a T3 varmint. Both are great at totally different price points.

I'm really just looking for any comments or advice on my thinking here as well as any recommendations. I'm struggling with paying the $1k-$1400 CAD for something really nice, but I can't find anything I really like sub $1k. My Leupold VX1 1-4 has been great though so I'm not opposed to lower priced stuff in principle.

Thanks much,
Lyndon

Thanks for the opinions and advice. Leupold has a $100 off mail-in rebate right now on any new VX-3 scopes sold before the year end. I ended up getting the 1.5-5x20 VX-3 for $299USD shipped. The best I could find local was $540 CAD. Both prices include the mail-in rebate.

Could you pm where you bought it?

Thanks,

Mik

I am a big fan of Meopta, can't get any clearer for the price.

The R1 1.5-6 is an incredible optic. I understand not wanting to go over $1K but if you do you won't be dissapointed.

Check this link there for a review of it's big brother the R2

As you will read it is comparable or better than optics twice the price, that tells a lot about the quality of Meopta products.

By the sounds of that, was this a US purchase? If so, you are going to be S O L if you ever need warranty.

Too late to give this advise but if anyone ever wants a scope for the uses you mentioned I'd suggest getting either a German #4 or at least a heavy reticle. Up close, or in the bush, the heavy reticle really stands out and makes those shots much easier, at least to me.
