Well tomorrow starts another hunting season here in the Yukon. My son is carrying on the tradition of keeping the Dall sheep populations from exploding and flew out this afternoon for a small lake surrounded by sheepy looking mountains. We'll see how he does, but he always comes back with a nice ram so I expect this year will be no different. A chip off the old block !!!
With his permission I'll share some pics with y'all in a few days.

rub the salt in wounds a bit more. early season sheep is an awesome hunt, longdays sun burn, rain and bugs. good luck to your son and a safe return with a twister.

Although I can only imagine the bugs on that hunt I am jelous. I've been working steady the last month or so in flat Saskatchewan. Days off have all been spent planning our wedding (Aug. 11, also excited)

I miss those crisp fall days in the field stalking game. I have been craving the hunt sooo hard lately.

I'll tell ya what I'm looking forward to is a whole back strap all to myself. BBQ to a med rare with lots of spices and a salad, maybe some corn-on-the-cob, a nice Chianti and maybe a Cuban after........MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!

Life is tough in the north, eh Ted!!!!!!!!!

His rifle started throwing fits a couple days ago (I suspect scope issues, it's a 300RUM) so he took my custom built 5lb 15 oz sheep rifle in 300WSM. It started life as a 700 Rem Ti, Mark supplied me a Brown Precision 13 oz stock and I installed a PT&G speedlock kit and alum bolt shroud, Weaver rings and bases and a Leupold 3-9 Compact. It shoots 150 gn TTSX at 3300 fps and sub moa. Rifle's never been blooded, so we'll see what happens. He has never eaten a sheep tag yet so...................

I'm sure you didn't have a shortage of rifles to loan :p

just checked Yukon on wiki the other day, only 36000 population. half of them are male, half of the male are able to hunt, half of those able men are willing to hunt, half of those willing men actually hunt. so you have only 2200 guys are hunting.

and your territory is so big, game animals are so abundant. you guys are spoiled.

It is tough to envy living in the north.

Your numbers are somewhat skewed but fairly accurate, we are probably a 60% male population and our game numbers are small compared to B.C. or Alta. but we do manage to struggle on and harvest a few animals each year. Like I said it's tough living in the north !!
