Hunting Vancouver Island newbie questions

Does anyone have any links to info about hunting vancouver island? Or any names of books etc. Also where can i find maps of crown land here? Looking to get in some long range shooting practice, but not sure where I can find places to legally do it. Thanks in advance

Long range shooting

I just go up in the bush with a sheet of plywood. Find a good logging slash or powerline, making sure you have a good backstop for your bullets and safe to shoot. Put up your target and start shooting!! I like setting up the plastic 4L milk jugs on stumps out to 500 yards,7 mm mag vaporizes them!!

Where are you living?

It's almost all crown land once you get out of the south and away from the populated east coast up to Campbell River.

Thanks for the advice, looks like a great site.
I live in Victoria, but I don't mind making trips up north at all. But for just a day of long range shooting I'd be looking at somewhere close by. I'll definitely pick up that mapbook (if i can't find a copy to photocopy at the library), thanks!

What area are you looking for? Most logging companies, especially the bigger ones, have road maps available to the public. The MOF also has maps available to the public. As for as a range close to you, there is one in Duncan. I'm not sure of the name though. If you have not found it already I could find out.
