Hello,

I haven't been hunting in quite a few years. My uncle and my dad want me to go with them next week, so I need to find out quick -- what do I need to hunt in Saskatchewan? Last time I did this, my dad took care of everything that I needed ... so I really don't know where to begin.

In regards to a hunting safety course -- oddly enough I am grandfathered, but I took one a few years ago anyway. Beyond that ... any information would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You need to set up HAL account here ht tp://www.saskatchewan.ca/hunting#utm_campaign=q2_2015&utm_medium=short&utm_source=%2Fhunting and get some tags from a vendor ( they need to be registered to you online at the vendor). Once you have your tags go to the same site and click on purchase a license and a habitat certificate and print them out. Then you fill in your information on the tags and your good to go. This all assumes you've been a Sask resident for at least 3 months.

Thanks. That's what I was looking for.

Well, it was a successful trip. All but one tag was filled. The doe in the foreground is mine -- a head shot just under her right ear. The buck on the left was shot twice -- the first shot was poorly placed, but the second shot struck him in the jaw and took him down immediately. The little one on the right was taken with a shot to the vitals.

We encountered several large groups of mule deer but only a few white tails. My uncle had been scouting the area off-and-on for about a week and had only seen a small handful of them. We were lucky this day to see as many as we did; he's calling me a good luck charm and is counting on me to go next year too.

I was using a .30-06 Remington 783. My Dad hunts with a .308, Remington of some kind that he bought back in the 70's, and my Uncle was using a Winchester rifle chambered in 7mm Rem Mag.

Best part -- spending time with my Dad and my uncle.
