Hunting with 6.5x57R

Before the thread spins out of control, I have read all of the posts on this site regarding this caliber ... Not interested in hearing about other calibers...

What I would like to hear about is any actual hunting experience that anyone has had with this cartridge on deer size game. I see most factory ammo loaded with 130 gr bullets, has anyone reloaded and used 140 gr bullets on game?

I already have a number of 6.5x55 rifles, but something in 6.5x57R has caught my eye.

I've used the 6.5x57 rimless on a few different hunts, never the rimmed version though. 140 gr bullets. Worked well. - dan

For actual hunting experiences the x57 will do exactly what your x55’s do. Here’s a moose put to sleep by a 6.5x57 Mauser and 160 woodleighs.

The deciding factor for me would be securing a good supply of rimmed brass.

It will do anything that half a dozen other 6.5's will do... I only shot one doe with a 6.5X57 with handloaded 140 Accubond, which is my go to hunting bullet in 6.5's. It is essentially the same at the terminal end as the .260 Rem, 6.5 Needmoor, 6.5X55, 6.5 Rem Mag etc... I have much more experience with the 6.5X55 and 6.5 RM, on deer, antelope, goats and moose... and a few coyotes and wolves. You certainly are not limiting yourself with the 6.5X57...
